Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 4/20/2020 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, the first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 as a call-to-action to everyone to protect our planet; and WHEREAS, Glendale has a long history of environmental protection, including formation of the Water Conservation Office in 1985; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale is committed to protecting our environment and conserving our natural, cultural, and historical resources; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale offers a diversity of programs and services to promote sustainability and environmental protection; and WHEREAS, all of us are called to be good environmental citizens, from our elementary school students to our business leaders. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 22, 2020 as the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and April 2020 as Environmental Awareness Month and encourage all residents and businesses to help make Glendale a sustainable community for present and future generations.
