Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 10/9/2018 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, in 1968 Congress created Hispanic Heritage Week, and the week was amended by Public Law 100-402 to a month-long observance honoring the achievements of Hispanics; and WHEREAS, since the 16th Century, the Hispanic influence has enriched the American culture in business, law, politics, education, community service, the arts, government, military service; and WHEREAS, every generation of Hispanic Americans has contributed to the advancement of freedom at home and abroad and in the protection of our homeland; and WHEREAS, Hispanics who serve as teachers and mentors, entrepreneurs, in the Supreme Court, and the halls of Congress, continue to be a significant part of the formation of America; and WHEREAS, Hispanic Americans, whose passion and love of family, faith, hard work and determination have given Glendale the spirit and diversity which continues to flourish in our community today. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim September 15 to October 15, 2018, as HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH and encourage all residents to make this month a time of commitment to the principles of unity, respect and trust for the betterment of our community.
