Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 4/10/2018 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, April is a month of national celebrations that promote environmental education and stewardship, including Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on April 27; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale is committed to protecting our environment and conserving our natural and historical resources; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale offers a diversity of programs and services to promote sustainability and environmental protection; and WHEREAS, a variety of environmental events have been planned in April by Community Services, Field Operations, Public Facilities, Recreation, and Special Events, Transportation, and Water Services; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale will offer household hazardous waste pick-up from March 19 to April 6, offer Bike to Work Day for City employees on April 4; and promote Bike to Work/School Week from April 15-21; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale will host several community events, including a water conservation class on April 18; the annual Glendale Family Bike Ride on April 22, and an Arbor Day celebration on April 27; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale will also host environmentally-friendly volunteer opportunities, including a workday at the Glendale Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on April 7 and the New River Trail Cleanup on April 21. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2018 as Environmental Awareness Month and encourage all citizens to participate in the City’s environmental activities and programs to make Glendale a better place to live.
