CITY OF GLENDALE
WHEREAS, The Marine Corps League was founded in 1923 and chartered by an Act of
Congress on August 4, 1937 and its membership of nearly 56,000 is comprised of
honorably discharged, active duty, Reserve Marines and retired Marines; and
WHEREAS from June 8 to June 9, 2018, the White Tank Mountain Marine Corps League
Detachment 1246 will host the 47th Annual Department of Arizona Marine Corps State
Convention in Glendale, Arizona; and
WHEREAS, the Marine Corps League is charged with preserving the traditions and
promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps by connecting those currently
serving in the USMC with those who have been honorably discharged; and
WHEREAS, by observing and celebrating the anniversaries of significant historical
occasions of the USMC, the Department of Arizona Marine Corps League brings credit
and honor upon themselves and all those who are currently serving in the USMC; and
WHEREAS, the service and support the Marine Corps League provides to the community
benefits numerous individuals, charities, and other non-profit organizations; and
WHEREAS, the City of Glendale recognizes and honors the service and sacrifice of all
men and women who have served in the armed forces of the United States.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on
behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim June 8, 2018 as:

Marine Corps League Day
