Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 4/26/2018 (3) CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, the city of Glendale has established a long tradition of Arbor Day celebrations, and being designated a Tree City USA for 23 consecutive year; and WHEREAS, this tradition calls public attention to the importance of tree planting and understanding the importance of sustaining an ecological, societal, and economical need of our most precious natural resource; and WHEREAS, trees are of great value because they provide clean air, shade, recreation opportunities, as well as being a renewable resource for fuel, products and jobs. WHEREAS, trees in our city increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas and beautify our community; and WHEREAS, trees bring natural elements and wildlife habitats into urban surroundings, all of which improve the quality of life for residents of the community; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 26th, 2018, as ARBOR DAY and urge all citizens to support efforts to plant trees and promote the wellbeing of present and future generations residents and guests making Glendale a better place to live.
