Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 1/28/2019 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, the City of Glendale in the state of Arizona has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and WHEREAS, general aviation and the Glendale Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Glendale; and WHEREAS, Arizona is home to 80 public-use airports, which serve 19,543 pilots and 7,652 registered aircraft; and WHEREAS, Arizona is home to 68 fixed-base operators, 140 repair stations, 119 heliports, 25 FAA-approved pilot schools, 4,602 flight students and 4,103 flight instructors; and WHEREAS, general aviation in Arizona supports $609 million in economic activity in Arizona annually; and WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Arizona’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and WHEREAS, the nation's aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place of this system to ensure that it remains a public system and serves communities of all sizes; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim January 2019 as: GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH and encourage all citizens to join us in its observation.
