Proclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 3/26/2019 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, on April 11, 1968, President Lyndon Johnson signed Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act, commonly referred to as the Fair Housing Act; WHEREAS, housing discrimination is defined as the refusal to sell or rent a dwelling to any person because of his race, color, religion, national origin, gender, disability, pregnancy or veteran status; WHEREAS, the city of Glendale joins cities and communities across the county to recognize and celebrate Fair Housing; WHEREAS, the city continues to be committed to highlighting the Fair Housing Law by continuing to address discrimination in our community; WHEREAS, the city supports programs that will educate the public about the right to equal housing opportunities, and partners with other organizations to help assure every resident of their right to fair housing as a priority; and NOW THEREFORE, I Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim the Month of April 2019, as: FAIR HOUSING MONTH and I would encourage all agencies, institutions and individuals, public and private, to abide by both the letter and the spirit of the Fair Housing Law.
