An investigation was undertaken to examine the duct-mount smoke detector inspection and test results performed for the project and permit listed above. The areas of concern investigated were: 1)Verify the duct smoke detectors were installed per plans and specifications. 2)Identify the manufacturer and model of the installed smoke detectors. a)Confirm the installation requirements listed for the smoke detector(s). b)Confirm the differential pressure range listed for the smoke detector(s). c)Confirm the velocity range listed for the smoke detector(s). 3)Field measurements and testing: a)Proper physical installation, pickup tube location and orientation. b)Status/alarm and electrical alarm circuit operational test. c)Differential static pressure test across the smoke detector sensing element. d)Activation test resulting in immediate shutdown upon activation of the smoke detector with aerosol test smoke. The findings are as follows: 1)The smoke detectors have been installed by the contractor in accordance with their listing. 2)The attached Duct Smoke Detector Test Record summarizing the field performance testing as performed and recorded by BDB Engineering Company, indicates acceptable results for the required inspections and tests. Inspection data and test results are recorded for the specific date,time and place identified. These are evaluated to determine whether the system is appropriate and functional under these conditions. Subsequent changes in the smoke detection, air handling, electrical or other related systems may have an effect on the detector installation and performance. Smoke detectors do require periodic maintenance and cleaning every 6 months or quarterly if installed in a dirty environment. Pefer tri manufacturer's literature and recommendations regarding ongoing maintenance.
