View of the tire damaged bottom chord member of the 3rd roof truss south of the north dutch gable truss. STRUCTURAL FIRE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT: 1. A section of the bottom chord member of the 2"d roof truss south of the north dutch gable truss located over the master bathroom area was severely structurally by the fire and an approximately 12" long section of the truss was burned away. The tire damaged section of the bottom chord should he removed and a 2X4 spaced block should be added at the removed section of the bottom chord and shimmed as required for a snug fit. 2X4 by 10'-0" long members should he attached on each side of the damaged bottom chord (centered on the replaced section) with l Od nails at 6"on center staggered top and bottom. 2. The bottom chord member of the 3`d roof truss south of the north dutch gable truss over the master bathroom area was structurally damaged by the tire. The fire damaged bottom chord member should he cleaned as required to remove any loose char, sealed as required to prevent odor, and repaired by attaching 2X4 by 8'-0" long members to each side of the fire damaged bottom chord (centered on the tire damaged area) with 10d nails at 6"on center staggered top and bottom. 3. The remainder of the roof trusses not mentioned above, the exterior masonry walls, the interior wood stud partition walls. the plywood roof sheathing, the concrete slab on grade floor, and the foundations were not structurally damaged by the fire and are structurally acceptable to use in the rebuild. Any remaining wood framing members with smoke and /or soot damage should he properly cleaned and sealed as required to prevent odor. See the enclosed truss elevations. sections, and general structural notes for the required structural repairs to the tire damaged roof trusses. If any additional structural damage is noted once the demolition and clean up has been completed or during the rebuild. please contact our office to perform a follow up investigation. The purpose of this investigation was to examine the house for structural damage related to a recent fire and provide a structural tire damage assessment and appropriate structural repair recommendations. OBSERVATIONS: This is a one story single family house with masonry exterior walls, a wood truss roof system with plywood sheathing and asphalt shingles, a concrete slab on grade floor, and assumed standard spread footings. The structural tire damage was limited to the roof trusses located over the master bathroom area located in the northwest corner of the house.
