CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Crow called the workshop to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Vern Crow, Chair Edwin Nyberg, Vice Chair Tom Cole, Commissioner John Crow, Commissioner John Geurs, Commissioner Martin Nowakowski, Commissioner Bryan Hooper, Commissioner Also Present: Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor Kevin Phelps, City Manager James Gruber, Deputy City Attorney Randy Huggins Jr., Director, Development Services Tabitha Perry, Deputy Director, Development Services Jessi Penderson, Director, Economic Development Tawanda Walker -Hall, Recording Secretary 3. WORKSHOP (RETREAT) TOPICS A. Contributions and Accomplishments City Manager, Kevin Phelps opened the workshop thanking the Commissioners for their service and the importance of their role in The City of Glendale. Mayor, Jerry P. Weiers thanked the Commissioners for their role in making projects come to fruition. B. Economic State of the City Randy Huggins, Jr., and Jessi Pederson gave a presentation providing updates about Planning Commission approved projects, the role of Economic Development in the growth of Glendale through tax revenue, which translate to employment and community elevation, and spoke about the progress of city infill projects. Mr. Phelps spoke to Glendale being the best Entertainment District by continuing to expand thorough higher density office space, more hotels, experience -driven businesses and increased residential developments. C. Significant Future Projects Tabitha Perry summarized the amount of acres the Commissioners has taken action on. Background was shared on upcoming projects such as the Unified Development Code (UDC) and the comprehensive rewrite of the General Plan to support the city's future vision. Also, advising the Commissioners of the challenges they may be faced with in the upcoming year. She reiterated to the Commissioners sincere appreciation for their time and participation. D. Roundtable Discussions Mayor Weirs and Mr. Phelps encouraged Commissioners to inquire anytime about improvements that can be made. Commissioners and staff had an open dialogue about various topics such as their primary responsibility as Commissioners, acquiring additional information to make more informed decisions, community concerns regarding public safety, annexed land, water and electric consumption. 4. COMMISSION COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS There were none. 5. ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Crow adjourned the workshop at approximately 7:26 p.m. The Planning Commission meeting minutes of October 16th were submitted and approved this 9th day of November 2023. 1.
