Footing Inspection
Dear Mr. Franklin:
On this date, we examined the footing excavations for the subject lot. With one
exception,we found the bearing soils to be hard,dry cemented native soils. Based on this
examination,these foundations are expectable for support of the structure using the allowable
bearing capacity of 1500 psf.
There is one area of concern on the north wall of the house. We found what look to be an
old burn pit. It is filled with debris and appears to extend under the footing and pad. This area
needs to be over-excavated to remove all fill and debris to expose the native soils. It should be
backfilled per the original report recommendations or filled with lean concrete slurry.
The bottoms of footings were not compacted per our original recommendations. While
this will not impact the bearing capacity,it will have an impact on settlement potential should the
soils become wet. Accordingly,all of our original recommendations about providing and
maintaining drainage will be even more important.
