CALL TO ORDER Chair Barber called the meeting to order at 6:00p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Derrell Barber, Chair Jose Aguinaga, Commissioner Nancy Lenox, Commissioner Nicole Riley, Commissioner Absent: Lorraine Zomok, Vice Chair Jean Hailey, Commissioner Also Present: Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts & Culture Program Manager Taylor Ingro, Arts & Culture Coordinator 3. PUBLIC COMMENTS No comments were recieved. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Action: Arts Commission Minutes of December 15, 2022 Motioned by Commissioner Nicole Riley, seconded by Commissioner Jose Aguinaga AYE: Chair Derrell Barber Commissioner Jose Aguinaga Commissioner Nancy Lenox Commissioner Nicole Riley Other: Vice Chair Lorraine Zomok (ABSENT) Commissioner Jean Hailey (ABSENT) Passed 5. NEW BUSINESS a. Action: Arts Commission Chair and Vice Chair Recommendations for 2023 The Government Services Committee (GSC)will consider recommendations for appointment of Arts Commission Chair and Vice Chair for 2023. The Appointments will be made at a Council meeting in January 2023. Information: Upcoming Art Projects Plan Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that the City was undergoing the budget process for FY2023-24 and the Arts Department is retaining the same budget as FY2022-23. Ms. Vahabzadeh reported that the Arts Master Plan project, approved in the current year budget, is open for consulting services bids until December 23, 2023. She anticipated that a consultant would be chosen and under contract over the next few months. c. Information: Update on Current Projects Ms. Ingro announced that staff was exploring a beautification initiative that would involve public/private partnerships to create public art murals in downtown Glendale. In addition, she said that the Glendale public art GIS map project was complete and accessible to the public online on the Arts & Culture pages on the city website. Ms. Vahabzadeh gave an update on current public art and performing arts projects. She said that artist John Randall Nelson is currently working on his designs for the Sierra Verde Park well site project, and the Plein Air painting competition will be held in Sahuaro Ranch Park on March 4th. Ms. Ingro announced that a Call to Artists is currently open for the Thunderbird Field Project. 6. STAFF UPDATES Ms. Vahabzadeh said during the month of January, the Commission is invited to view and purchase art at the Juried Fine Art Exhibit at the Sahuaro Ranch Park Fruit Packing Shed. She explained that due to staff office moves and construction, it was determined that the City would not purchase art during the event this year. 7. COMMISSION COMMENTS Commissioner Riley congratulated staff on putting together the Downtown Arts and Culture Festival, which is a huge undertaking. 8. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on January 26, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. 9.
