1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Riley called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.

4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
a. Motion: Approval of the Arts Commission Minutes of August 18, 2021

5. NEW BUSINESS
a. ACTION: Arts Commission Chair and Vice Chair Recommendations for 2022
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that recommendations for Chair and Vice Chair for the Commission for 2022 are needed. She
explained that the recommendations will be sent to the Government Services Committee for review and then to City Council for
appointment. Discussion was held.
Motion: To recommend the appointment of Derrell Barber as Chair of the Arts Commission and Lorraine Zomok as Vioe Chair of the
Arts Commission for 2022

b. ACTION: City of Glendale Photo Contest
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that a City of Glendale photo contest would be held in Spring 2022 and provided the following details:
• The winning photos will be purchased by the City. The suggested purchase price is $150.00 per photo. The city will use the
winning photos for the city website, promotional materials, and other media
• There are five different categories for submissions:
• Spirit of the City
• Environment
• Architecture
• Culture and Community
• Daily Life
• Up to 25 winning photos can be selected
• It is anticipated that the contest will be opened in March with the judging conducted in April or May. There will be a selection
panel, which can include a few members of the Arts Commission
Motion: To approve funding not to exceed $4,000.00 for the City of Glendale Spring 2022 Photo Contest

c. INFORMATION: INFLUX Cycle 10
Ms. Vahabzadeh gave a report on INFLUX Cycle 10, which included the following details:
• IN FLUX is a valley wide initiative and is a collective call for artists. The cities participating this year are Glendale, Scottsdale,
Tempe, Avondale, Peoria, and Chandler
• The theme for Cycle 10 is emerging artists
• The Call to Artists was released over a month ago and 44 artists submitted their qualifications
• Chair Riley, Vice Chair Barber, and Mr. Samuel Pena, a City staff member, will review the artists' qualifications and select one
artist and two alternatives for the Glendale City Hall lobby location
• The artwork will remain in place for one year
• The Commission has budgeted $5,000 for this initiative
• Ms. Vahabzadeh will meet with the selected artist at the installation site and the artist will then design the installation
specifically for the site. The final design must be approved by the entire Arts Commission
d. INFORMATION: FY 2022-23 Arts Projects Plan Discussion
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that the City's budget process for FY 2022-23 is underway. In order to align with the city's budget
process, the Arts Commission shall discuss and vote to approve the annual arts project plan at the January meeting of the Arts
Commission. Discussion was held.
e. ACTION: Vote to Change the Date and Location of the January Meeting of the Commission
Ms. Vahabzadeh announced that the annual Juried Fine Art Exhibit by the Glendale Arts Council will be held in January at the
Sahuaro Ranch Park Fruit Packing Shed. She explained that during this art event, art may be purchased by the Arts Commission
for the municipal portable art collection. She suggested changing the date of the January Commission meeting to align with the pre
public opening of the exhibit. Various dates were discussed.

6. STAFF UPDATE
Ms. Vahabzadeh encouraged the Commissioners to see the holiday lights and holiday events at Murphy Park in downtown
Glendale. She wished the Commissioners a wonderful holiday season.
7. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chair Riley shared a video clip of the singing tree at Murphy Park. Commissioner Zomok complimented Vice Chair Barber on her
speech and representation of the Arts Commission at the launch of the Lights at Murphy Park. Commissioner Zomok praised Ms.
Vahabzadeh on her presentation as a guest speaker at the Glendale Ambassador's event.
8. NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sahuaro
Ranch Park Fruit Packing Shed.
