There were no comments.
4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
Chairperson Cole asked for a motion to approve the Arts Commission Minutes of April 25,
2019 and May 9, 2019.

5. NEW BUSINESS
a. INFORMATION: End of the Year Review of Projects and Accomplishments
Ms. Vahabzadeh provided a handout documenting the FY 2019 End of Year Highlights and
provided details and photos. Projects and Accomplishments included the following:
o The Centerline District Arts & Cultural Initiative Grants
o The Arts Commission Approves the Finalized Public Art Designs for the Heroes
Regional Park Library
012 Days of Christmas at the Brelby Theatre Company
o The Phoenix Conservatory of Music Concert State at the Glendale Glitter and Glow
0 2019 Plein Air Painting Competition at the Chocolate Affaire Festival
o Community Public Art Project at the Chocolate Affaire Festival
o Artist Talks to Celebrate African American History Month: Richard Booker and Bob
Martin
o Performing Arts Productions at the E. Lowell Rogers Amphitheatre
o Mountain Days: The John Muir Musical in Concert
o Shakespeare in the Park: As You Like It
o EXIST: Messengers of the Cosmos
o New Public Art Enhancement at the Elsie McCarthy Sensory Garden
o "Neighborhood Roots" Comes to Life at the Heroes Regional Park Library — Artist Pete
Goldlust
o Sugar Beets to Cotton and Beyond
o Fiction is Freeing — Reading Nook Mural
oAn informational flyer and photos were presented.
Ms. Vahabzadeh reported that the grand opening of the Heroes Regional Park Library was
held on May 18th and there were approximately 1,300 attendees. Ms. Weldon presented
photos of the event and Mr. Goldlust's installation at the library.
Ms. Weldon reported the following on the IN FLUX Tour #1:
o Bus tour of various artists' IN FLUX installations held on Saturday, April 27th at 9:00 a.m.
o Destinations: Phoenix, Glendale and Peoria
o Phoenix: Artists Daniel Funkhouser and Christy Puetz are featured at the Burton Barr
Central Library
o Glendale: Artist Mary Shindell's work is in the lobby of Glendale City Hall and will remain
for one year.
o Peoria: Artist Eliza Weber's work is located in a space outside the Main Library and
Artist Bobby Zokaites' work is installed outside Sunrise Mountain Library at 21109 N.
98th Avenue.
o Photos of the artwork were displayed.
Ms. Vahabzadeh presented photos of the Gallery 37 project at the Elsie McCarthy Sensory
Garden. This project paired teens with master artists Betsy Andrews and Lichen Frank to
create new public art at the site.
b. ACTION: Consider a Vote to Vacate the June 27, 2019 and the July 25, 2019 Meetings
of the Arts Commission
Chairperson Cole asked for a motion to vacate the June 27, 2019 and the July 25, 2019
Meetings of the Arts Commission.
Motioned by Commissioner Nicole Riley, seconded by Commissioner Helen

6. STAFF UPDATES
Ms. Vahabzadeh provided updates:
The next Arts Commission meeting will be held on August 22, 2019.
The Centerline Arts & Cultural Initiative grant application will be available on the website
in July. Program promotion will begin July 1 st and it is expected that there will be
applications to present to the Commission at the August meeting.
The Arts and Culture Program will eventually relocate from the Main Library building to
City Hall. The Arts and Culture Program, which is currently in the Community Services
Department, will be moved to be part of the Office of Economic Development.
7. COMMISSION COMMENTS
Chairperson Cole complimented the public art installations at Heroes Regional Park Library
and thanked Ms. Vahabzadeh and Ms. Weldon for all of the hard work.
8. NEXT MEETING
The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on August 22, 2019 at
6:00 p.m., in the second floor boardroom of the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.,
Glendale, Arizona, 85302.
9. ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Cole asked for a motion to adjourn. The meeting adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
