NEW BUSINESS a. INFORMATION: JUNIOR CSI ACADEMY PROGRAM Library Staff will provide an update Chief Librarian Beck welcomed everyone and introduced Alexandra Rowland who started the program in 2019 at the Heroes branch location. Ms. Rowland stated that it is a special program between the Glendale Police department and the Glendale library that brings a positive interaction with the community. It will be at the Foothills branch library on March 26, 2022. There will be nine different stations on a map throughout the library showing the steps of a crime scene investigation. The police dog will be there at one of the stations with demonstrations. The kids learn about blood DNA analysis, try on police gear, and fingerprinting. At the final station, the kids earn a Crime Scene Investigate certificate with a badge. Member Eva Ndavu asked if 2019 was the first year this was offered. Ms. Rowland stated yes. The location was picked out because the police are nearby. Member Ndavu asked if the students can get some type of credit or certification, such as a high school student. Ms. Rowland stated no because it's more for entertainment and observing. Member Kocur asked how we manage the flow of people. Does everyone go to the same booth at the same time? Ms. Rowland stated that we have 8 volunteers, 8 police officers, and 6 library staff. The police department was very organized and assisted with the set- up. Many families came out because of interest. Chief Librarian Beck stated that after signing up at the registration table, the kids can go to any station on the map to get their stamp. Volunteers and staff help guide them. At the completion of going to all stations, they will get a certificate. It's a great partnership between the police department, volunteers, and the library. b.
