3. CITIZEN COMMENTS
None.
4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
a. Library Advisory Board Minutes of January 12, 2022.
Board Member Diane Kocur made the motion, Board Member Eva Ndavu made the second
to approve the January 12, 2022, Library Advisory Board meeting minutes as amended with
the following change:
Section 5.a - More than 40 songwriters are published in six, one-hour long videos on the
YouTube channel also.
Motion approved 6-0.
5. NEW BUSINESS
a. HEROES REGIONAL PARK LIBRARY AND LAKE TOURS WITH UPDATES
Chief Librarian Beck welcomed everyone and stated that we will use live video for the
members during the tour, so everyone can be part of the tour. The board has been rotating
the meetings between the four branches. Chief Librarian Beck introduced Administrative
Librarian, Liz Garcia, for the Heroes Regional Park Library. Mrs. Garcia stated they have
been open since 2019 and will be having their third anniversary soon. The library offers
story -time, youth read -to -a -dog program, and various music programs. The library has
three outdoor patios (youth, teen, and adult) that can be enjoyed by patrons. The lake
recently opened and the requests for new library cards have increased by approximately ten
per day. Some people did not know that there was a library in the building until the lake was
opened. The tour of the lake and building began.
7. CHIEF LIBRARIAN UPDATE
a. Chief Librarian Beck updated the Board of the following:
• Volunteers — Twenty new volunteers have joined the library, bringing the number up to
120.
• Prenda — This is an online coding web -based service that will soon be available 24/7 with
remote access. It is for any age group, but primarily for ages eight -years and older.
• Administrative Librarian -Collection Development Job Opening — The position was formerly
held by Kathy Curley who recently retired and should be filled soon. The board members
will be able to meet the new employee in the spring.
• Master Planning — Consultants are tentatively scheduled from February 22 through
February 24, 2022. The board members will be available to attend in person and online as
well. Additional details will be given once they have been received.
Chair Johnson asked if there were any questions.
Member Kocur questioned how they would be part of the Master Planning meeting. Chief
Librarian Beck stated that they would be able to attend public forums as a resident.
Chair Johnson asked if there were any questions. No other questions or comments.
8. BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS
Member Kocur gave thanks to Ms. Garcia for the tour.
Vice -Chair Timothy Ndavu suggested to the members to get the community more involved
regarding input for the master plan.
Member Eva Ndavu gave thanks for the video tour. She attended the opening of the lake a
couple of weeks ago. If she lived in the Yucca district, she would be at the lake every day.
Chair Johnson thanked Mrs. Garcia and for showing how much the Heroes library has
grown since its opening. He asked if there were any more questions. No other questions.
9. NEXT MEETING
Chair Gary Johnson stated the next meeting location.
The next regular meeting of the Library Advisory Board will be held on March 9th at 6:00
p.m., in the Board Room of the Main Library, located at 5959 W. Brown St., Glendale,
Arizona, 85302.
10. ADJOURNMENT
Board Member Snair, made a motion, Board Member Kocur made the second to adjourn the
meeting at 6:40 p.m.
The Library Advisory Board meeting minutes of February 9, 2022, were submitted and approved
