GLENDALE AVE. GLENDALE, ARIZONA 85301 SEPTEMBER 23, 2020 9:30 A.M. 1. CALL TO ORDER THE LOCAL POLICE BOARD Chair Charles Erickson called the meeting to order at 9:33 a.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present: Mayor & Board Member Jerry Weiers City Manager & Board Member Kevin Phelps Board Member & Chair Charles Erickson Police Board Member Cody Carmichael, Police Sergeant Police Board Member Justin Harris, Police Officer Absent: None Staff Present: Jim Brown, Board Secretary & Director of Human Resources & Risk Mgmt. Vicki Moss, HR Administrator, Benefits Nancy Mangone, Assistant City Attorney Nancy Rodriguez, HR Analyst Charlotte Beadles, HR Specialist, Benefits Lisa Chill, Admin Support Supervisor, HR Other Attendees: Board Attorney Carrie O'Brien 3. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no citizens present. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES The Board approved the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System - Local Police Board Minutes of August 26, 2020 Motioned by Board Member Justin Harris, seconded by Board Member Cody Carmichael AYE: Mayor Jerry Weiers Board Member Cody Carmichael Board Member Charles Erickson Board Member Justin Harris Board Member Kevin Phelps Passed 5. NEW BUSINESS A. Board Secretary Jim Brown read the pertinent information and the Board reviewed the Application for Enrollment into the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (D.R.O.P.) submitted by Douglas M. Hunt, Police Sergeant. Douglas M. Hunt has 20.008 years of credited service. He has elected to participate in the D.R.O.P. on October 17, 2020 and must terminate employment with the City of Glendale Police Department on or before October 31, 2025. The Board voted to approve the application. Motioned by Board Member Kevin Phelps, seconded by Board Member Justin Harris AYE: Mayor Jerry Weiers Board Member Cody Carmichael Board Member Charles Erickson Board Member Justin Harris Board Member Kevin Phelps Passed B. Mr. Brown read the pertinent information and the Board reviewed the Application for Enrollment into the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (D.R.O.P.) submitted by Charles C. McClung, Police Officer. Charles C. McClung has 26.007 years of credited service. He elected to participate in the D.R.O.P. on August 9, 2020 and must terminate employment with the City of Glendale Police Department on or before August 31, 2025. The Board voted to approve the application. Motioned by Board Member Justin Harris, seconded by Board Member Cody Carmichael AYE: Mayor Jerry Weiers Board Member Cody Carmichael Board Member Charles Erickson Board Member Justin Harris Board Member Kevin Phelps Passed C. Mr. Brown read the pertinent information and the Board reviewed an Application for Retirement from the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (D.R.O.P.) submitted by Matthew John Apodaca, Police Lieutenant. Matthew John Apodaca has elected to retire from the D.R.O.P. and terminated his employment with the Glendale Police Department on September 7, 2020. On October 25, 2017, the Local Police Board had approved his Application for Enrollment into the D.R.O.P. and he had elected to participate on September 30, 2017. He was required to terminate his employment with the City of Glendale Police Department on or before September 30, 2022. Matthew John Apodaca is eligible to retire from the D.R.O.P. and to receive a Lump Sum distribution. The Board voted to approve the application. Mr. Brown read the pertinent information and the Board reviewed an Application for Retirement from the Deferred Retirement Option Plan (D.R.O.P.) submitted by Richard Stringer, Police Sergeant. Richard Stringer has elected to retire from the D.R.O.P. and terminated his employment with the Glendale Police Department on September 24, 2020. On August 23, 2017, the Local Police Board had approved his Application for Enrollment into the D.R.O.P. and he had elected to participate on July 28, 2017. He was required to terminate his employment with the City of Glendale Police Department on or before July 31, 2022. Richard Stringer is eligible to retire from the D.R.O.P. and to receive a Lump Sum distribution. The Board voted to approve the application. BOARD COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS There were no Board comments or suggestions. 7. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Local Police Board will be held on October 28, 2020 at 9:30 a.m., in the HR Training Room, located at 5850 W. Glendale Ave., Glendale, Arizona, 85301. 8. ADJOURN THE LOCAL POLICE BOARD MEETING Chair Erickson adjourned the meeting at 9:40 a.m. The Public Safety Personnel Retirement System Local Police Board meeting minutes of September 23, 2020 were submitted and approved this 28th day of October 2020. /s/Jim Brown Jim Brown Recording Secretary
