Mayor & Council Installation Ceremony Council Chambers City Council Mayor Jerry Weiers Vice Mayor Ray Malnar Councilmember Jamie Aidama Councilmember Joyce Clark Councilmember Ian Hugh Councilmember Lauren Tolmachoff Councilmember Bart Turner CALL TO ORDER Mayor Weiers called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. POSTING OF COLORS The Colors were posted by the Glendale Fire Department and Police Department Honor Guard. NATIONAL ANTHEM The National Anthem was performed by Dr. Mai-ly Duong. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE PRAYER/INVOCATION The invocation was offered by Pastor Jeff Fillis, Turning Leaf Church of the Nazarene. WELCOME Mayor Weiers welcomed everyone to the Mayor and Council Installation Ceremony. OATH OF OFFICE 1. The Oath of Office was administered to Councilmember-elect Joyce Clark, Yucca District, by the Honorable Nicholas DiPiazza, Presiding Judge, Glendale City Court. Councilmember Clark was entering her 6th term as the Yucca District representative. It was an honor and a privilege to serve the Yucca District. She thanked her family for their support and the residents of the Yucca District for their faith in her ability and commitment to represent them. She had two goals: completion of Heroes Park and policy decisions that would advance the City of Glendale. Councilmember Clark said her commitment to serve the City had never been stronger. 2. The Oath of Office was administered to Councilmember-elect Ian Hugh, Cactus District, by the Honorable Nicholas DiPiazza, Presiding Judge, Glendale City Court. Councilmember Hugh thanked his family and the residents of the Cactus District for their support. He said the Council had done a great job and Glendale was a great place to live. 3. The Oath of Office was administered to Councilmember-elect Ray Malnar, Sahuaro District, by the Honorable Nicholas DiPiazza, Presiding Judge, Glendale City Court. Vice Mayor Malnar was starting his sixth year of service and a lot had transpired during that period. He was proud of the accomplishments and strides the City had made. He thanked his wife and family for supporting him, the residents of the Sahuaro District for their faith in electing him and City Manager Kevin Phelps for leadership. The City was experiencing an economic renaissance due to the policies Council had put into place that were carried out by City staff. City Council Meeting Minutes - December 8, 2020 Page 2 of 3 4. The Oath of Office was administered to Mayor -elect Jerry P. Weiers, by the Honorable Nicholas DiPiazza, Presiding Judge, Glendale City Court. Mayor Weiers said it was a blessing to have the support of the City of Glendale. Eight years ago, the City was close to bankruptcy. He thanked the staff members who had stuck it out through the hard times. The City was stronger today. The Council cared and wanted to make a difference for the people they served. Kevin Phelps and the leadership team were finding ways to make the City better and more efficient. He thanked everyone. CLOSING SONG The closing song, God Bless America, was performed by Dr. Mai-ly Duong.
