CITY OF GLENDALE
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the oldest Greek-letter
organization established by African-American college women.
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was founded on January
15, 1908 at Howard University in Washington, DC with a mission to service to all
mankind.
WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is a global organization
and lifelong sisterhood with more than 300,000 members and over 1,000 chapters
located throughout the world.
WHEREAS, the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated have had
a positive impact in their individual communities throughout its 110-year history
by exemplifying passion, leadership, and excellence in service through its various
community initiatives focused on enhancing the social, economic and educational
well-being of our communities.
WHEREAS, the Desert Pearls of the West Valley Interest Group of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, is committed to Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable
Service to communities in the West Valley and making a lasting positive impact to
the communities of Glendale, Avondale, Buckeye, El Mirage, Goodyear, Litchfield
Park, Peoria, Surprise and Tolleson.
WHEREAS, the Desert Pearls of the West Valley Interest Group is recognized as
the newest graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona,
on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim December 2, 2018, as:
CHAPTER CHARTERING DAY
ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED
DESERT PEARLS OF THE WEST VALLEY,
NEWEST GRADUATE CHAPTER
Congratulations to the charter members of the Desert Pearls of the West Valley
Chapter and to all the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
