HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclamations, Opinions, Awards - Historical - 4/23/2019 CITY OF GLENDALE WHEREAS, April is a month of national celebrations that promote environmental awareness and stewardship, including Earth Day on April 22 and Arbor Day on April 26; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale is committed to protecting our environment and conserving our natural, cultural, and historical resources; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale offers a diversity of programs and services to promote sustainability and environmental protection; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale hosts several environmental-friendly community events, including the annual Glendale Family Bike Ride on March 31 that kicks off Valley Metro’s Bike Month, an Arizona-friendly gardening class on April 3, an Arbor Day celebration on April 25; a medication collection day on April 27; and several eco-friendly craft activities at the Glendale Public Library throughout April; and WHEREAS, the City of Glendale hosts several volunteer opportunities, including a workday at the Xeriscape Demonstration Garden on April 22 with employees at Tanger Outlets Westgate; several park enhancement projects during Heart to Earth Week from April 22 to 25 with AAA employees, and a community service project at Sahuaro Ranch Park on April 27 with students from ASU’s Upward Bound Project; and WHEREAS, volunteers plant the seeds of kindness and help improve Glendale’s environment and quality of life. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry P. Weiers, Mayor of the City of Glendale, Arizona, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2019 as: Environmental Awareness Month and encourage all citizens to participate in the City’s environmental activities and programs to make Glendale a better place to live, work, and play.
