CALL TO ORDER 2. CITIZEN COMMENTS There were no public comments. 4. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Arts Commission Minutes of December 7, 2017. NEW BUSINESS a. FY 2018-2019 ARTS PROJECTS PLAN Staff and Commission members discussed and considered projects and programs for developing the FY 2018-19 Arts Projects Plan. Ms. Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts and Culture Program Manager explained that per the City of Glendale Arts Ordinance, the Arts Commission shall develop an annual arts projects plan with the appropriate city staff for the purpose of making recommendations to City Council. She stated this was in an attempt to align with the city of Glendale's FY 2018-19 budget process. She stated they will be asking Council for approval to increase discretionary programming funding for the Centerline District from $39,250 to $50,000. She said this was to keep funding on track with the current applications being approved. She noted the other item, which will be part of the projects plan is the public art aspect of the new Heroes Regional Park Library (budget $200,000), which had already been discussed and approved by Council. FY 2018-19 Proposed Projects and Initiatives: • IN FLUX Cycle 9 — Valley -wide Initiative - Temporary Art Installation $ 4,000 • Juried Fine Arts Show - Annual Art Purchase $ 2,000 • FY 2019-20 Performing Arts Partnership Program $ 44,000 • FY 2018-19 Youth//Teen Arts Summer Activity $ 10,000 • Annual Arts Maintenance $ 10,000 • Community Arts Activities $ 2,000 • Centerline District Arts & Cultural Activities • Interactive Arts Experience at the Glitter and Glow $ 6,000 • Interactive Arts Experience at the Chocolate Affaire $ 6,000 • Plein Air Painting Competition at the Chocolate Affaire $ 2,750 • Discretionary Programming Fund $ 50,000 Chairperson Richards asked for a motion. GLENDALE ARTS COUNCIL JURIED FINE ARTS EXHIBIT The Arts Commission reviewed the Glendale Arts Council Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibit and selected the purchase awards for the Municipal Art Collection. The artwork selected by the Commission will become part of the municipal portable art collection. The Commissioners provided their selections, and after a lengthy discussion, they selected two pieces from the exhibit for purchase. Arts Pieces selected: Wokopelli's Kickin it" by Linda Burrus — Watercolor - $1,200 "On the Fence" by Elliott Everson - Colored Pencil on wood panel - $2,800 Chairperson Richards asked for a motion. STAFF UPDATES Chocolate Affaire Festival Staff explained that the Paint Nite event will not be funded by the Arts Commission due to contract arrangement conflicts. The Plein Air Painting Competition will be at the Chocolate Affaire as planned on February 10. Glitter and Glow Ms. Vahabzadeh stated that under the artistic direction of Dr. Rachel Bowditch, there will be a performance by Vessel, a theatre company. The performance, titled "Transfix: Halcyon," is a roaming silent performance that will travel though the people in the crowd. The performance will occur from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on January 6, 2018. Hockey Tickets Staff passed out Hockey tickets to the Commissioners attending the game. The game is on January 12, 2018 @ 7:00 p.m. 7. COMMISSION COMMENTS The Commissioners requested an explanation for why the "Heroes" name came to be for the Heroes Regional Park Library. Staff will research and provide more information about this at the next meeting of the Commission. 8. NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on February 22, 2018 at 6:00 p.m., in the Boardroom, on the second floor of the Glendale Public Library, 5959 W. Brown St., Glendale, Arizona, 85302. 9. ADJOURNMENT Chairperson Richards asked for a motion to adjourn.
