HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Historic Preservation Commission - Meeting Date: 5/25/2017HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2017 GLENDALE CITY HALL CONFERENCE ROOM 2A 5850 WEST GLENDALE AVENUE 4:OOPM CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Hackenberg at approximately 4:03pm. ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Commissioners Froes, Wixon, Rovey (arrived at 4:05pm), Pratcher (departed at 4:14pm), Vice Chairperson Quinn, and Chairperson Hackenberg were in attendance. Commissioner Coury was absent. Staff presents: Jon M. Froke, AICP, Planning Director, Thomas Ritz, AICP, Senior Planner, and Diana Figueroa, Recording Secretary APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson Hackenberg called for a motion for approval of the minutes. Vice Chairperson Quinn made a motion to approve the December 22, 2016 Special Meeting as written. Commissioner Pratcher seconded the motion. The motion was approved with a vote of 5 to 0. BUSINESS FROM THE FLOOR Chairperson Hackenberg called for Business From The Floor. There was none. WITHDRAWALS AND CONTINUANCES Chairperson Hackenberg called for any Withdrawals and Continuances. There were none. PUBLIC HEARING ITEM Chairperson Hackenberg called for Public Hearing Item. 2017 RUTH BYRNE AWARD Thomas Ritz, AICP, Senior Planner, presented the item. He said the Historic Preservation Commission will discuss and vote to select the 2017 recipient of the Ruth Byme Historic Preservation Award. He noted that staff received one nomination for the 2017 Award, Rosemary Lynch. He explained that Rosemary Lynch was a founding member and has promoted the Glendale Arizona Historical Society since the 1970's. He said that Rosemary has volunteered at Saguaro Ranch for special events and as a decent conducting tours for over 40 years. She also assisted with arranging the exhibits at the Guest House at Saguaro Ranch. In 1992, she served on the Glendale Centennial Committee for the City's centennial. May 25,2017 Minutes Historic Preservation Commission Page 2 He stated the Commission's required action is to conduct a review of the nomination forms and select the recipient of the 2017 award. After looking over and discussing the material presented, the Commission voted to approve the nomination. COMMISSIONER ROVEY MADE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE NOMINATION FOR ROSEMARY LYNCH FOR THE 2017 RUTH BYRNE AWARD. COMMISSIONER QUINN SECONDED THE MOTION WHICH WAS APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY Chairperson Hackenberg stated that this was a very good choice for this award. Commissioner Rovey agreed and noted that with all of Rosemary Lynch's qualifications, he was amazed she had not been nominated earlier. OTHER BUSINESS Chairperson Hackenberg called for Other Business. Jon M. Froke, AICP, Planning Director, presented a Webinar to educate the Commission on Design Guidelines for Historic Neighbors. The webinar was approximately 60 minutes. STAFF REPORT Chairperson Hackenberg called for the Staff Report. There was none. COMMISSION COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS Chairperson Hackenberg called for Commission Comments and Suggestions. There were none. ADJOURNMENT With no further business, Chairperson Hackenberg adjourned the meeting at 5:13pm. NEXT MEETING The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on September 28,2017 The Historic Preservation Commission meeting minutes of May 25, 2017 were submitted and approved this 24th day of January 2019.
