Marie encouraged the members to visit the O'Brien's Emporium
in Scottsdale to view his work. Phil Gardner, Economic
Development Director will be invited to the February meeting
to inform him of the sculpture.
The librarys ground breaking ceremony will take place in
March. Debbie Gessner will be invited to participate in the

arts poster available for the library ground breaking. The
motion was seconded by Betty and the motion did not carry.
The members felt the poster should be available sooner.
Discussion was held on the poster, the Commission was
concerned that the poster had not been printed yet. After
much discussion the Commission requested the poster be
available at the February meeting.
Glenn Compton, Civic Engineer, submitted a progress report on
the pond for the library sculpture. Since the architect has
not submitted landscape plans yet, he is not able to
proceed. Marie discussed the pond with Tint Ernster, Deputy.
City Manager of Community Services at their lunch meeting on
January 1.3. Marie requested the cost of providing water,
electrical, and sewer drain to the site be reexamined by the
City to bring the $7,000.00 cost down. Bob stated the actual
pond should be tiled and the Commission should pay for doing
the pond of high quality. Lowell made the motion to postpone
further discussion on the utility lines until a clarification
can be given on the costs and when there are definite
progress on the pond. The motion was seconded by Dr. Atkins
and passed unanimously.
The City is still doing research on the security for the City
Council Gallery. The City is reviewing a proposal that would
provide security for the room. A loan form was distributed
for review from the Commission members.
Since the Commission has not received a formal. request to
schedule exhibits in that room, the Commission will request
that responsibility from the City Council. Nelda made a
motion to formally request responsibility for scheduling art
exhibits in the City Council Lobby, the responsibility will
not cover insurance or staffing of the Gallery. The motion
was seconded by Lowell. and passed unanimously. The formal
request will be brought before the City Council. Debbie
Gessner will be contacted when all the details are worked out
on the Gallery for an exhibit.

Council on a specific location for the clock. Several
suggestions for the clock are a clock on the elevator tower,
between the two buildings, a clock tower on the walk just
outside the amphitheater, and on the face of Velma Teague
Library since it is projected to be remodeled soon. Lowell
and Gloria will meet to draft a letter to City Council.
