to all the members.

Festival of the Arts. The paintings are:

A motion was made by Mrs. Abel to display the

the next thirty (30) days. The motion was
seconded by Mrs. Wade and passed unanimously.
D. An oil painting of the Beet Sugar Factory was
presented to the Arts Commission. The
painting was done by Artist Darrell Moss. Mr.
Moss is an Arizona landscape artist. His work
has a traditional approach and he works
primarily in oils. The price of the painting
is $3,300, framed. The artist did not finish
the painting in time for the Festival of the
Arts Show, but wanted to approach the Arts
Commission because he knew the Commission was
interested in a painting of Beet Sugar
Factory. If the Commission purchased the
painting, it could be loaned to the Chamber of
Commerce Building or be hung in the Gallery.
The Commission decided to postpone their
decision on purchasing the painting until
November. The Commission is interested in
seeing some of his other work and learning
more about his price range. Mrs. Sands will
also contact the artist and ask him to frame
the painting before the Commission will make
their final decision.
E. The City's Community Development Department
has asked the City to consider commissioning
an artist to do a wall mural for the
pedestrian courtyard will be located East of
58th Avenue between Bitzee Mama's and Glendale

specifics such as the size of the wall, wall
surface, lighting, and the width of the wall.
This information will be gathered for future
meetings.

dedicated at the Murphy Park dedication on
October 18, at 9:00 a.m.
G. The airport terminal is predicted to be
completed in late November. A dedication date
will not be set until the terminal is almost
completed.
H. Discussion was held concerning the lights over
"Glendale Pioneers, 1910" the wood sculpture
by Richard Swarocky. The lights were not
approved by the Commission and some feel they
detract from the work.
The Commissioners were asked to look at the
wood sculpture and to think about the lights
for further discussion.
A tour of the Library was conducted by Ms. Widom
and Mr. Shadoin. The Commissioners reviewed
possible locations for art. After touring the
facility, the Commission decided to not acquire art
for the facility until the books and furniture are
installed. The Commission felt the furniture and
books should be in the Library to get a more
accurate view of how the interior of the building
will look, and what kind of art to purchase.
Next meeting will be Wednesday, November 19, 1986
at 3:00 p.m., in the City Council Building, Room
B-5.
