ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1984 AT 3:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Marie Sands at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present: Betty Wade, Enid Abel, Lowell Rogers, Robert Page, and Dr. Joseph Atkins. Nelda Crowell was absent. Also present was Beverley Miller, Staff Coordinator for the Glendale Arts Commission. There being no corrections or additions to the minutes of the meeting of June 7, 1984, the minutes stood approved. DISCUSSION Discussion began with Marie; she said she had spoken with Richard Szwarocky, and said that he was not quite ready yet with his sketches. This item will be placed on the November agenda, and Richard should, at that time, be ready to present to the Commission, his full preliminary working sketches of "Glendale Pioneers". Discussion then turned to the date for the next meeting. The Commission would normally meet on the 3rd Wednesday of November, but due to the Thanksgiving Holiday the November meeting was changed to the 2nd Wednesday of the month. Discussion continued concerning the November agenda. Debbie Gessner had been asked, several months ago, to think about some ideas for an Irrigator. She will be invited to the November meeting, to present her ideas. The Commission also wanted Debbie to bring her portfolio to the meeting. Next, Beverley submitted for discussion, materials she had received concerning a portrait of our Mayor. The Commission was asked to consider commissioning an artist to do a portrait of Mayor Renner. The concensus of the Commission was that this was not a function of the Glendale Arts Commission. It was also pointed out that over time, having a place to hang and/or store portraits could get to be a problem for us as it is now at the State Capital Building. Motion by Robert Page, seconded by Dr. Atkins that the Glendale Arts Commission not commission a portrait of the Mayor. Motion passed unanimously. With the Twenty -Third Annual Festival of the Arts coming up, a discussion arose concerning this event. Last year, the Glendale Arts Commission unanimously passed a motion whereas the Commission may, review and consider buying the Purchase Award from the Glendale Arts Festival. Motion by Robert Page, seconded by Joseph Atkins, that if the Glendale Arts Commission purchases from the Glendale Festival of the Arts, they purchase fromwhat's jurried into the show, and set this as a prescedence. Motion passed unanimously. There being no further business, Motion by Dr. Atkins, seconded by Betty Wade to adjourn the business portion of the meeting. From there, the Commission proceeded to the New Municipal Office Complex for a tour.
