I'll♦.... Q r d e. r The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Mrs. Marie Sands at 3zOO p.m. with the following members present: Enid Abel, Dr. Joe Atkins, and Bob Page. Also present were: Rodeane Widon, Library and Cable Director; Shelly Mosley, Technical Services Manager; Louise Stephens, Library Manager; Tom Shadoin, President of Shadoin-MICOU Associates; ani Gloria Santiago, Staff Laison for the Glendale Arts Commission. The minutes were approved. The current balance is $74,090.30 Outstanding commitments for the remainder of 1986 and early 1987 are: Ed Mell $13,855 2 Payments George Lundeen 23rOO4 Final Pymt. Debbie Gessner 21,000 2 Payments Festival of Arts Purchases 3,000 Reflecting Pond 18,00-0 Estimated Total $78,859 Even though the Art Fund is showing a negative balance at this time, Gloria has finalized the transfer of funds with the Budget Department to the Art Fund on a regular basis. The Budget Department has predicted a good year for the Municipal Art Fund. In the October meeting, Gloria will report on estimated income for the next five years. "Old Friends" installation and dedication - The bronze sculpture will be dedicated on Saturday, October 18, at 9:00 a.m. as part of the Murphy Park iedication. George Lundeen, artist, will install the sculpture on October I and October Bob page and Gloria Santiago have been working on a Long Range Art Plan. The Plan includes proposed art projects broken down by year. The Long Range Plan is composed of the Arts Commission's various ideas about different projects. The Budget Department has given a Five Year Capital Improvement Project Budget for the entire City. From that Budget, art contributions must be identified. The Capital Improvement Project Budget has just been finalized but has not been approved by the City Council. The final Long Range Plan will be presented in the October meeting. A motion was made by Bob Page that the Arts Commission designate the location where Arts Commission purchases, gifts, or loans will be placed for display. Art should be displayed in City owned facilities in locations where the art work will have public exposure. The location of the art collection will be reviewed every six months. The motion was seconded by Dr. Atkins, and carried unanimously. An inventory designating the location of the current art collection will be presented at the October meeting. Redeane Widom and Tom Shadoin reported on the progress of the Library construction. Mr. Shadoin reported on Suzanne Dolesch for a wall mural in the children's area and for the time line on the history of man. Ms. Widom reported she would like to purchase "Carousel Horses Sculpture" for the children's area with the donation from the Glendale Women's Club. The Women's Club donated $1,000. Ms. Widom asked if the Arts Commission would be interested in supplementing the other horses. We will try to negotiate with the artist to see if we can purchase three carousel horses for $4,000. Mr. Shadoin will also look at Howard Post's art work for the Library.
