HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Arts Commission - Meeting Date: 6/21/1989MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE GLENDALE ARTS COMMISSION HELD AT THE GLENDALE MUNICIPAL OFFICE COMPLEX WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21, 1989, 3:00 P.M. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Mrs. Marie Sands, at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present: Dr. Atkins, Bob Page, Nelda Crowell, and Mavis Voris. Also present was Gloria Santiago, Staff Liaison to the Glendale Arts Commission. Approval of Minutes The May 17, 1.989 Minutes were approved. Financial Report The balance of the Municipal Art Fund as of June 21 is: $83,317.87 Encumbered funds for the Beaugureau painting: 14,000. Available balance for art expenditures: 69,317.89 Business Discussion A. The Francis Beaugureau painting is excepted to be completed in late October or early Novemeber. B. "Glendale Pioneer, 191011 has been repaired. The Wood Man, Ron Roe repaired the bas-relief sculpture. The cost of the repair was $3,200. C. The pump, motor, water leveler, and electrical panel have been stolen from the "Irrigators" reflecting pond. Works of art are covered by the city but the pond is not an art piece it is not covered through the fine arts policy. It is covered as city property and there is a $1,000 deductible. The estimated cost of replacing these parts is $1,000. The pond will be repaired. D. Phil Gardner, Economic Development Director was not able to attend the Arts Commission meeting. New Business The Phoenix Arts Commission guidelines for Art in Private Development was reviewed by Bob Page. It was recommended that this would be a good time to discuss this project with Planning and Zoning and City Council because development has leveled off. It was suggested that developer set aside half of one percent for art in their development. More research will be done on this project. A draft of the interim guidelinesnes for art in private development is enclosed for the commissioners to review. Chairman Mrs. Sands and Dr. Atkins were thanked by the commissioners for their leadership, dedication, and committment to the Arts Commission during their terms. Under their leadership the City of Glendale acquired an outstanding art collection. They will both be greatly missed. Their dedication was greatly appreciated. Next Meeting Date The next Arts Commission meeting will be Wednesday, September 20, at 4:00 p.m. in B-3 in the Municipal Office Complex. Gloria Santiag Staff Liaison to the Glendale Arts Commission
