B. Airport Elevations have been discussed with WE
Mell, Bob Page and Larry Anderson, the
Architect for the new airport. The elevation
information was needed for Mr. Mell to make the
final dimensions of the painting.
Library Elevations -Tom Shadoin, President of
Shadoin-MICOU Associates presented floor plans of
the Library. The area suggested for a tapestry is
approximately 81 x 13. This area could be too
large for a painting in a lower space. It was
suggested that maybe three tapestries of geometric
designs would look good in the area. The colors in
the circulation desk area are blue & burgundy in
the carpet, the floor tile contains beige and
A rey. The block wall is sand blasted with a
greyish -beige shade. Considering these colors the
suggested tapestry could contain beige, blue and
burgundy. A companion piece may be of metal. The
area for a tapestry receives a good deal of natural
lighting.
Another idea for the children's area is hanging
mobiles. Betty Alice Foster, a Glendale resident,
has offered to do a stained glass of the City
logo. It was suggested this could be displayed in
the lighted City directory. Mr. Shadoin offered to
give the Arts Commission Members a tour of the
Library in September.
The Festival of the Arts request for expenditure of
$3,000 will be presented at the June 3 City Council
Meeting.
Lee Brotherton, from the Austin Gallery, gave a
slide presentation of several artists.
The gallery's artists range from traditional,
contemporary, to impressionalists. The artist can
do a wide range of subject matter, size or style.
Revised Arts Commission Ordinance was reveiwed. It
does contain a statement concerning art donations
made to the City.
