Assistant Fire Chief Levenda and Mr. Ward, the architect for
the Foothills Public Safety Building, presented the elevation
plans for the new complex. The main entrance will be off
Union stills, with the parking area located off 63rd Avenue.
The elevations are:
Ground to the top of the main entrance door 71 211
Ground to the bottom of Clay tile roof 161
Ground to top of the roof 241
The ground breaking ceremony will be May 22. The building
will be completed in eleven months. The building will take
on a residential character, since it is located in a
neighborhood.
There are two possible locations for outdoor art. One is
directly in front of the building facing north. The
dimension of this space is approximately 19 feet in radius to
the outside wall. Another area for art, is in the triangular
space to the east of the building. Skunk Creek is directly
adjacent to this location. There could be room for two
pieces in this area. A model of this building is located at
the fire station on 55th Avenue and Orangewood.
The Commission will do research on sculptors for the Public
Safety Building.
Art for the municipal airport was discussed. A suggestion
for the airport is a mobile of antique propellers. Dr.
Atkins suggested that the A.S.U. West Art Department may have
some leads or that private plane owners may donate
propellers. Airport art will be discussed at future
meetings.
An interior wall. clock for the library has been proposed for
the west wall. The clock would be six (6) feet in diameter,
costing approximately $1,800 plus shipping costs. A motion
was made by Bob Page and seconded by Dr. Atkins to purchase a
six (6) foot wall clock for the library. The cost of the
clock is not to exceed $2,500. The motion passed
unanimously.
Discussion was held on the library opening. It is
tentatively scheduled for mid-July. The Debbie Lessner
sculpture will be dedicated at the opening. The Commission
requested the "Irrigators" be covered until it is dedicated.
A motion was made by Bob Page and seconded by Betty Wade that
Tom Shadion, the interior decorator and Rodeane Widom, the
Library Director, determine the placement of the art
purchased for the library. The motion passed unanimously.
Discussion was held on allocating funds for the Fall Festival
of the Arts. A motion was made by Bob Page and seconded by
Betty Wade to purchase art at the 1987 Festival of the Arts.
The purchases are not to exceed $3,000. The motion passed
unanimously.
