The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Mrs. Marie
Sands at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present: Dr.
Joe Atkins, Betty Wade, Enid Abel, Bob Page and Nelda
Crowell.® Also present were: Tim Ernster, Deputy City
Manager, Community Services and Gloria Santiago, Staff
Liaison to the Glendale Arts Commission.
There was an addition to the March 22, 1987 Minutes. The
commission price for the Howard Post painting is $22,500.

The Commissioner were given a report of 1986-87 Art
Expenditures and projected transfers to the Municipal Art
Fund. (see attachment)
The Lincor Properties have loaned® to the Arts Commission,
the maquette of the outdoor sculpture for the Glendale
Financial Center. The artist is Diane Katsiaficas. The
maquette will be displayed in the Art Gallery.
The Glendale Community College Art Faculty Art Show will be
hung on Friday, May 1, 1987, and run until June 15, 1987.
The Art Show will feature all. medias. Approximately 24
artists will be displaying.
The "Irrigators," by Debbie Gessner, is being cast in the
foundry. The sculpture will be completed by the middle of
June. The Library will be dedicated in the middle of July.
A motion was made by Mrs. Crowell, and seconded by Dr.
Atkins, to actually unveil the sculpture at the Library
dedication, thus keeping the sculpture covered until that
time.

Chief Crabtree will attend the May meeting with elevation
drawings of the North Public Safety Building. Discussion was
held concerning a competition for that work of art. Research
on art competition will be done and reported on for the May
meeting.
Judy Hudson, from the Valley National Bank, has offered to
loan the City art from the Bank's collection for a future art
exhibition. A show may be considered by November or
December.
The Annual Festival. of the Arts will be hung in the Art
Gallery on October 1.0, and will run through October 25. The
Arts Council has expressed an interest in exhibiting their
entire art collection in one location. A motion was made by
Mrs.Crowell and seconded by Mrs. Abel to invite the Arts
Council to exhibit their collection in the Municipal Office
Complex, lower level. The lower level receives much public
exposure, since the Human Resources and Recreation
Departments are both located on that level. The motion
passed unanimously.
The Arts Commission requested a list of long range projects
for the May meeting. This will be provided by the City
liaison.
A motion was made by Dr. Atkins, and seconded by Mrs. Wade,
for the Arts Commission to purchase art work in the Fall
Festival of the Arts. The arts Commission is particularly
interested in art work pertaining to historical subjects and
Glendale related subjects.
Dr. Atkins presented information on an impressionist artist
named Tom Darro. Mr Darro is represented by Overland Trail
Gallery. His work ranges in size from 281 x 381 to 161 x 241
and his prices ranges from $3,500 to $9,000.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 20, 1987, at
3:00 p.m.
