Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Mrs. Marie
Sands at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present:
Lowell Rogers, Betty Wade, and Enid Abel. Also present at
the meeting was Gloria Santiago, Staff Liaison to the
Glendale Arts Commission.
Treasurer's Report

Discussion
The Ed Mell study of the "Estrella Mountains" was displayed.
Discussion was held on where to exhibit the painting. A
motion was made by Mrs. Wade and seconded by Mrs. Abel to
hang the Ed Mell study in the reception area. Next to the
Mell painting a plaque will be hung identifying the original
Arts Commission members.
The request from Theater Work for financial assistance was
discussed. The Arts Ordinance only addresses visual art so
the Commission could not take any action on the request.
The City logo signs similar to the signs on the Municipal
Office Complex have been suggested for the Foothills Public
Safety Building. The original cost of the illuminated signs
was $5,000 for the eight foot sign and $4,300 for the six
foot sign. The signs were made by Bootz and Duke. These
prices do include the cost of installation. The commission
will continue to research art for this location.
Mrs. Sands reported on the Arizona Commission on the Arts
Workshop which she attended on March 24. Several of the
topics covered were: deaccession of art, preservation,
documentation and insurance.
Terry Sharp, Deputy City Manager of Management Resources, has
been asked to review the Arts Ordinance. The current
Ordinance does not address the installation, maintenance, and
insurance of the commissioned art work. Some municipal
ordinances allocate five percent (5%) of their annual budget
for such items.
A motion was made by Mr. Rogers and seconded by Mrs. Abel
that the documentation on the art acquired by the Commission,
information on the artists, and all related history be kept
in the City archives. A motion passed unanimously.
A second motion was made by Mr. Rogers and seconded by Mrs.
Wade that de--accession of an art piece can only be
accomplished with City Council approval only upon the
recommendation of the Glendale Arts Commission. The motion
passed unanimously.
New Business

McCall mural, 1°Icarus Triumphant: "The Legend Retold," this
project will be turned over to the Marketing Department.
