DISCUSSION
Marie asked for comments concerning the minutes of the previous meeting; there
being none, the minutes stand approved as sent.
Larry Anderson went over the modifications made to the original drawings for the
design of the new airport. Included in the changes is a sculpture garden, which
will be approximately 15-20' wide by 6' in length. Also, due to the design changes,
the location of the Mc Call painting was moved to the lobby area. This wall is
approximately 20' long x 10' high. The airport is scheduled for completion in
June, 1986.
Motion by Dr. Atkins, seconded by Enid Abel, to purchase a second painting of
"Arizona's Promise" by Robert Mc Call for $5,000. Motion passed unanimously.
This painting is approximately 24" x 30" and the cost includes the frame. The
copyright has been retained by Mc Call.
Debbie Gessner presented a wax model of her sculpture entitled, "Sanjeros". There
will be 3 figures, approximately 4' high, and will cost from $34,000 - 41,000.
It would be a bronze sculpture, possibly located in a pool of water. The sculpture
would be located at the new library.
Barry Moffit spoke briefly about how you confront this piece of art, and the need
for the artist and the architect to get together to express ideas concerning the
location etc. for this work of art.
Motion by Dr. Atkins, seconded by Robert Page, to have Debbie Gessner proceed with
her work; and to have Debbie and Barry work together to intergrate the artwork
with the architecture. Motion passed unanimously. The library construction is
scheduled for completion in the Spring of 1987.
Tom Shadoin is responsible for the interior of the library, and he asked the
commission to begin thinking of what types of artwork they would be purchasing
and where they would envision it.
The May meeting will be on the 8th, the June meeting will be on the 12th.
