Discussion
Doug Sexton presented quotes from artists to construct the
Sundial for the Foothills Public Safety Building. The quotes
are: $19,500 for a natural clay and terra cota tiles from Cassidy
Studio; $27,000 to $38,500 for steel or copper from artist Gary
Slater; and the final proposal from Southwest Metals range from
$97,720 to $122,000 for corten steel or copper. The City would
need to provide the concrete base.
If the Cassidy Studios are selected Mr. Sexton's fee would be 10%
above the cost and if Mr. Slater is selected Mr. Sexton's fee
would be less than %10. At this time metal is preferred by the
Commission so Mr. Sexton will continue to work with Mr. Slater.
Mr. Beaugureau presented his final sketch for the painting for
the City Council Chambers. The un -framed art piece will be
approximately 96" in length and 54" in height. A motion was made
by Mrs. Abel and seconded by Mrs. Voris to proceed with the
commission of Mr. Beaugureau. The cost of the painting will be
$20,000 including the frame. The Commission will now proceed to
the City Council.
Mrs. Sands reported on a seminar on "Art in Transit". The focus
of the seminar was public art for the Valtran. Artists and
architects were presented.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, April 19, 1989, at 3:00
