HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Arts Commission - Meeting Date: 3/13/1985MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE GLENDALE ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, HELD AT THE MUNICIPAL OFFICE COMPLEX BASEMENT CONF- ERENCE ROOM, 5850 W. GLENDALE AVENUE ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13, 1985 at 3:00 P.M. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Marie Sands at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present: Betty Wade, Robert Page, Nelda Crowell, Dr. Joseph Atkins, and Enid Abel were present. Lowell Rogers was absent. Also present were Beverley Miller, Staff,Coordinator for the Arts Commission and Helen Cornell, Public Information:iOfficer. DISCUSSION Betty Wade made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion second by Enid. Motion passed unanimously. Marie presented the commission with a brief financial report prepared by Terry Sharp. Discussion went on to include at the time the Commission submits the Municipal Arts Plan to the City Council for approval, the plan will include money to cover the cost of the reception dedicating and accepting the art work. Motion by Enid to do that. Second by Dr. Atkins. Motion carried. Marie suggested that the mailing for the next reception be at least five weeks ahead due to unforseen mailing delays that may occur. The Commission discussed briefly the publicity for the McCall reception. Helen Cornell advised that news releases had been sent. Nelda reported on the reception catering arrangements and presented the commission with an outline of preparations that were being made. See attached. Motion by Nelda to approve $50.00 additional for food and $20.00 additional for the centerpieces at the reception. Second by Enid. Motion carried. Debbie Gessner was unable to prepare adequately for this meeting and was placed on the April agenda. The Commission determined that the Architect from the Airport would come back to update the Commission on the final lobby design for locating the McCall work. Marie suggested they keep in mind a sculpture for the Sculpture Garden that is being planned for the airport. Marie asked if the architect for the Library had been selected yet and suggested he be invited to make a presentation to the Arts Commission as soon as possible. General discussion to keep in touch with the media regarding the McCall reception. -26- Helen Cornell requested that the Mayor speak at the reception to introduce the Commission and its purpose, the Artists, and to accept and introduce the McCall painting. The mayor would speak at 4:45. Marie suggested the Commission purchase a display easel for this reception and any future art display events. Motion by Robert Page to purchase same. Second by Nelda to approve purchase. Motion carried. No further business being presented, the Commission adjourned at 4:50 p.m. The next meeting was scheduled for 3:00, April 10, 1985.
