HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Arts Commission - Meeting Date: 2/21/1990MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE GLENDALE ARTS COMMISSION HELD AT THE GLENDALE MUNICIPAL OFFICE COMPLEX WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1990, 3:00 P.M. Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bob Page at 3:00 p.m., with following members present: Enid Abel, Lowell Rogers, Mavis Voris, Betty Klass, and Corda Colvin. Also present was Staff Ron Smith, Recreation Coordinator. Approval of Minutes The January 24, 1990 minutes were approved. Financial Report The balance of the Municipal Art Fund is: $80,317.87 Encumbered funds for "A Time of Rains": 14,000.00 Encumbered funds for "Territorial Sheriff" 58,000.00 Available balance for art expenditures is: 8,317.87 Discussion A. Fountain at the Adult Center: Member Rogers reported the sub -committee reviewing the fountain at the Adult Center and met with Richard Watanabe, Parks Superintendent. The sub -committee is recommending the fountain be converted into a flower planter. The Adult Center would form a Garden Club to maintain the garden. Changing the fountain would not require art funds. Mr. Watanabe is preparing a report on how to clean the copper and on changing the fountain. Nancy Richardson from Prescott, Veroncia Weaver and Trish Hawkins were recommended for the the work. B. Time of Rains Reception: Member Voris reported that 80 people had RSVP'd to the reception. The cost of the caterer would increase by 50 cents since it was an estimate under 200 people. The program would include Chairman Bob Page introducing Mayor Renner and he would introduce Mrs. Sands and Mr. Beaugureau. New Business A. Long Range Plan: Member Klass and Member Colvin volunteered to work on the long range plan with Gloria Santiago. Funds will be projected for the next five years. The sub -committee will review the following areas: * the future direction of the Commission * interfacing with the Phoenix Arts Commission and other valley commissions * broadening the scope of the Commission The long range plan should be completed by June. Member Abel requested honoring Marty Robbins during this process. B. Meeting with the Phoenix Arts Commission: The Phoenix Arts Commission is interested in doing a joint project. Everyone was requested to think of items which would draw other arts organizations together. Chairman Page will meet with the Phoenix Arts Comission and will report. C. Art in Private Development: Chairman Page will meet with Jerry Swanson, Community Services Deputy Manager, concerning art in private developments.
