HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Arts Commission - Meeting Date: 2/15/1984MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE GLENDALE ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, HELD AT THE SENIOR CENTER, 7121 N. 57th AVENUE, OCOTILLO ROOM, #2 & #3, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1984 AT 2:30 P.M. CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Marie Sands at 2:30 p.m. with the following members present: Enid Abel, Dr. Joseph Atkins, Lowell Rogers, Betty Wade and Robert Page. Nelda Crowell was absent. Also present was: Beverley Miller, Staff Coordinator for the Arts Commission. DISCUSSION Marie Sands had asked all commissioners to come early to the meeting so that they could begin the presentations by artists promptly at 3:00 p.m. Robert Page passed out the art acquisition policy, with some changes in policy. Discussion occurred, Beverley was asked to provide information on the City's insurance policy and whether or not it would cover works of art. Next, Betty Wade provided a list of works of art as purchased by the Glendale Arts Council. She also had pictures of the collection. Next, Marie stated that Nelda Crowell had inquired about art for rent. Motion by Robert Page, seconded by Betty Wade to table discussing loans for a year. Motion passed unanimously. Next, the discussion turned to commissioning art either thematically or abstract. The commissioners felt that this should be kept in mind when viewing the artists presentations. It seemed to be the consensus of the group that art which is pertinent to this area is very important. Next, Lowell Rogers passed out infor- mation on the National Endowment for the Arts grant application process. He reviewed several pages of requirements and after some discussion on the subject a motion was made by Robert Page and seconded by Joe Atkins to table this discussion for a year. Motion passed unanimously. Next, presentation were made by all the artists who had, as of February 15, 1984, expressed a desire in familiarizing themself and their work to the commission. Each artist had approximately 15 minutes to make his/her presentation. After listening to all of the artists a motion was made by Lowell Rogers, seconded by Betty Wade to adjourn the meeting at 5:15 p.m. Motioned passed unanimously. ever ey Meller/Staff Coordinator for the Glendale Arts Commission -13-
