,Discussion
Mr. Ma,nzelmann Jr., architect from the Benham Group
presented the revised plans of the Headquarters Public
Safety Building. The facility still has a courtyard in
the center of the three buildings but the major change
is that the Courts Building will now face Glendale
Avenue.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 89 with
the estimated completion in December of 1990 or January
1991.
The entry into the Courts Building is an estimated space
of 481x481x481. This location will be considered for a
bronze sculpture because it will visible from the
street. Since the facility will be used "public
safety" officials, the commission discussed the
possibility of an "Arizona Rangers" sculpture. A motion
was made by Mr. Page and seconded by Mr. Roger to
initiate an art project using the Arizona Ranger
theme. Mr. Page will initiate the project and will
report to the commission at the February meeting.
The architects stated their budget does not include
funds for interior art and would like the commission to
provide art.
Doug Sexton, architect of the Foothills Public Safety
Building will present a model of a sundial at the
February meeting.
Mayor Renner has requested a companion art piece be
considered for the city council chambers. Mr. Francis
Beaugureau was invited to present a primarily sketch for
a companion piece. The theme would be prehistoric
indians and would also feature the canals. To present a
more refined sketch Mr. Beaugureau will research the
culture of the indians living in the Glendale area. A
motion was made by Mr. Page and seconded by Mr. Rodgers
to give Mr. Beaugureau a retainer fee of $1,000. Mr.
Beaugureau will present a study at a future meeting.
Repairs are being done on the reflective pond at the
Glendale Public Library. The maintenance problems are
an underground leak and a wiring problem. The Parks,
Building Services, and the Engineering Departments are
all working to repair the problems.
A repair agreement is being drawn up by the city
attorney to repair "Glendale Pioneers, 191011 by Richard
Szwarocky.
