ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE, HELD
AT THE MUNICIPAL OFFICE COMPLEX, BASEMENT
CONFERENCE ROOM, 5850 W. GLENDALE AVENUE ON
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16, 1985 AT 3:00 P.M.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Marie Sands at 3:00 p.m.
with the following members present: Betty Wade, Enid Abel, Lowell Rogers,
Robert Page, Nelda Crowell and Dr. Joseph Atkins. Also present was
Beverley Miller, Staff Coordinator for the Glendale Arts Commission,
Ray Morse, Airport Director, Mr. Larry Anderson, Architect for the Airport,
Diana Darling, Interiors Coordinator with the Anderson Corporation, Robert
McCall, Artist, Helen Cornell, Public Information, and Gloria Santiago,
Recreation Supervisor.
DISCUSSION
Larry Anderson presented several preliminary floor and site plans for the
new airport terminal building to the Commission. The Commission asked
several questions and talked about various locations for art. The locations
included art for both in and outside the building. The Commission and the
Architect will continue to work together in acquiring works of art at the
airport.
Next, Robert McCall presented two paintings to the Commission for comment.
The Commission compared the two paintings with Bob McCall noting the commissions
likes and preferences of the various scenes within the two paintings. With
these comments in mind, Robert McCall will now begin to paint his final work
of art.
Discussion then turned to the reception. Several names and ideas concerning
the guest list were talked about. It was decided that Betty Wade would work
with Helen Cornell in culminating a master invitation list. Beverley is in
charge of ordering the invitations, city staff will address them. Nelda Crowell
will work with Chris Girardi in making arrangements to use whatever is needed
in serving the refreshments. Because this is a reception, there will not be
a formal unveiling or ceremony. The Mayor and Council, the Arts Commission and
Robert McCall will be present to greet the guests. The next order of business
on the agenda concerned a status report to Council. Beverley will prepare a
status report informing the Council of the projects the Commission is working
on. Motion by Nelda Crowell, seconded by Robert Page to have Marie Sands attend
the workshop session to answer any questions, motioned passed unanimously. The
next meeting will be February 13, Debbie Gessner will be invited to attend and
present some preliminary costs for a bronze irrigator. Bob Page requested the
commissioners visit the O'Brien Gallery and take a look at a bust by Lundeen.
Dr. Atkins requested that other future art acquisitions be discussed soon.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
