HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Arts Commission - Meeting Date: 1/13/1988MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE GLENDALE ARTS COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF GLENDALE HELD AT THE GLENDALE MUNICIPAL OFFICE COMPLEX 5850 WEST GLENDALE AVENUE WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13, AT 3:00 P.M. J V W, Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chairwoman Mrs. Marie Sands at 3:00 p.m. with the following members present: Bob Page, Dr. Joe Atkins, Enid Able, Betty Wade and Nelda Crowell. Also present at the meeting was Laura Ohlrich, Public Information Specialist; and Gloria Santiago, Staff Liaison to the Glendale Arts Commission. Treasurer's Report The Municipal Art Fund Balance is $10,554.42. Discussion A. The Maureen Frische Painting "Carrying Water" is now being displayed at O'Neil Park Recreation Building. B. The Foothills Public Safety Building is proceeding. The total cost of the project and the art contribution will be presented at the February meeting. The Arizona Commission on the Arts will be invited to the February meeting to how slides of the sculpture for ideas for the North Public Safety Building. C. Art for the O'Neil Recreation Building will be postponed since the Frische painting is displayed there. D. Robert McCall has begun working on the library project. Valley schools will be invited to come view Mr. McCall at work. Discussion was held concerning a reception at the end of the projection. The idea of a fund raiser reception was discussed. If a reception was held at the library, discussion was held on involving the Library commission. A motion was made by Mrs. Crowell and seconded by Mr. page to lend the Arts Commission name as a co-sponsor to a reception if City funds are available. The motion passed. E. The City has asked all departments review their budget and to reduce expenditures wherever possible. The Arts Commission non -art budget has been reviewed and can be targeted as a cost saver. In lieu of this, staff is requesting only scheduling one show in the Art Gallery this season. A motion was made by Mrs. Crowell and seconded by Mrs. able to only schedule one art exhibit in the Gallery this season. F. Discussion was postponed on post cards of the art. G. Discussion was postponed on airport art. New Business Bob Page asked if Arts Commission members could be mailed copies of news articles. Mr. Page also has information on playground art in Tempe. Next Meeting Date The next meeting will be on Wednesday, February 17, 1988, at 3:00 p.m., at the City Council Chambers Building, Room B-3.
