ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
GLENDALE PIJBLIC LIBRARY

The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:10 pm by Vice Chair Eva
Ndavu. Commissioners, Bernadette Bolognini, Mark Fast, and Helen Fokszanskyj-
Conti were in attendance. Chairperson Canie Richards, Thomas Cole and Cheryl
Gangemi were absent and excused.
Representing crty staffwas Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Arts and Culture Program
Managern and Mike Beck, Chief Librarian, Elaine Adamczyk, Interim City of
Glendale Community Services Director and Jane Weldon, Part-time Associate.
Approval of Minutes - October 27. 2016
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Fast to APPROVE the Arts
Commission meeting minutes from the October 2712016 meeting.
Commissioner Bolognini SECONDED the MOTION. which carried
unanimously.
Business From the Floor
At this time the Commission will hear comments from the public. There were no
comments.
The Special Events Collaborations for City Signature Events
Staffupdated the Commission on the upcoming arts events to be held in
conjunction with the Glendale Glitter and Glow Block Party and the Glendale
Chocolate Affaire Festival. Staffalso requested approval for potential use of
additional funding that has become available for the projects to be presented at the
signature events. The Commission agreed to approve additional funding for both
signature events.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Fast to APPROVE additional
funding for the two interactive arts projects, one for the Glitter & Glow Block
Party and another for the Chocolate Affaire Festival for up to $6000.

Commissioner Bolognini SECONDED the MOTION, which carried
unanimously.
The FY 2017-18 Arts Proiect Planning Discussion
Staff facilitated a discussion of items for consideration and review for formal
approval at the January 2017 meeting of the Arts Commission. Mojgan
Vahabzadeh, Arts and Culture Program Manager requested that the Commission
work with staff to consider projects and programs for the purpose of developing
the FY 2017-18 Arts Projects Plan. She said this is in an attempt to align with the
City of Glendale's FY 2017-18 budget process.

Vote to Change the January Meeting of the Arts Commission.
The Commission holds its meeting at the Fruit Packing Shed each January at
Sahuaro Ranch Park, in order to preview and select artwork for purchase from the
Annual Glendale Arts Council's Juried Fine Art Exhibition. Therefore, staff asked
the Commission to vote to move the January 26th meeting to January 3rd,4th or
5th to be held at the Fruit Packing Shed.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Fast to Move the January Arts
Commission Meeting to January 412017 to be held @ the Fruit Packing Shed.
Commissioner Bolognini SECONDBD the MOTION' which carried
unanimously.
Staff Updates
Mojgan Vatrabzadeh, Arts and Culture Program Manager, updated the Commission
on a cornmunity group that was proposing a potential art donation to the city. Ms.
Vahabzadeh explained staffhas been working with the group on the correct
process and procedure for any potential donation of art to the city. She will keep
the Commission updated.
Brelby Theater
Ms. Vatrabzadeh provided an update on the Centerline Initiative funded theatrical
production presented by Brelby Theater at the Murphy Park Amphitheater. She
stated that the reviews have been outstanding. She noted that everyone was very
pleased with the turnout.
Red Rocks Music Update
Ms.Vahabzadeh stated that she will be forwarding the Commissioners' comments
to the applicant and hopes they re-apply soon. She will keep everyone updated.
Coyote Game Invitation
Ms. Vahabzadeh informed the Commission they Were all invited to a Coyotes
game sometime in March. She explained the tickets are provided by the city to the
Glendale Boards and Commissions. She will have more information as the date
draws near.
Commission Comments
Commissioner Fast commented on an issue he had on a public Glendale Park. He
explained his conversation with the city staffand Risk Management. He said the
issue surrounded the proximately of a nearby golf course and the danger of being
hit by a fly ball while visiting the park. He was concerned about someone being
seriously injured and a possible lawsuit for the city. Elaine Adamczyk, Interim
City of Glendale Community Services Directorn said she would inform the Director
of Parks.

Vice Chair Ndavu asked for a motion to adjourn.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Bolognini to ADJOURN the
meeting. Commissioner Fast SECOIIDED the MOTION. which carried
unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 7:32 pm
The next meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on January 4,
2Ol7 @ 6:00p.m., at the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch Parlq 9802N. 59u
Avenue, Glendale, Avenue.
