HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Minutes - Government Services Committee - Meeting Date: 5/2/2016 Government Services Committee Monday— May 2, 2016 Regular Meeting Minutes Council Conference Room 5850 West Glendale Avenue Glendale, AZ Councilmember Tolmachoff called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Present were Councilmember Jamie Aldama, Councilmember Ray Malnar and Councilmember Lauren Tolmachoff. Also in attendance were Kriss Carneal, Erin Steffa, Intergov Programs Administrator Jenna Goad, City Attorney Michael Bailey, Senior Management Assistant for Parks & Recreation Stephanie Miller, Community Services Director Erik Strunk. #1 —Approval of Minutes from GSC Meeting of April 5, 2016: Councilmember Malnar made a motion to approve the minutes from the April 5, 2016 GSC meeting. Councilmember Aldama seconded the motion. Minutes approved unanimously. #2 — Resignations: John LeGendre (Cactus) from the Commission on Persons with Disabilities Commission. #3 —Commission on Persons w/Disabilities: Councilmember Tolmachoff asked if there were any issues on this commission,because of the two recent resignations. Erik suggested that each Councilmember contact their appointee and see how they feel this commission is being led and the business being discussed. Erik advised that this commission has changed a lot over the years with the ADA requirements and the city is responsive for disability needs. It was recommended to have staff bring possible items of interest to discuss. Erik stated that this commission will have a retreat this summer to discuss this commissions accomplishments and produce an action plan for the following year. It was discussed to possibly combine this commission with another. Stephanie advised that at the last meeting, the commission voted to start doing bi-monthly meetings, since there is not enough business to discuss or public interest. Councilmember Aldama advised that the city is working with Special Olympics with an event that will be in Glendale. #4 — Boards & Commissions Recruit Fair Event: Kriss provided a memo of the last recruitment fair that was done in 2008. It was discussed to set up a table during the busy time or another scheduled city event at the Glendale Adult Center, Community Center, Library, and Foothills Recreation Aquatics Center to try to recruit people to serve on Boards & Commissions. Councilmember Aldama asked if the Government Services Commission could do a small commercial on Glendale 11 to tell the citizens how important it is to serve on a board/commission. #5—Next GSC Meeting: June 7, 2016 #6—Request for Motion to Adjourn. At 10:25 a.m. Councilmember Aldama made a motion to adjourn. Councilmember Malnar seconded the motion. Motion approved unanimously. 1
