FINAL MINUTES
I. Call to Order - Chairperson Wilson called the meeting to order at
approximately 10:00am.
II. Roll Call - Library Board members Koory, Shelly, Collett, Vice
Chairperson Sommer, and Chairperson Wilson were present. Board
members Allen, Fallucca, Gibala, and Aborne (excused) were absent.
Parks and Recreation Commission members Moreno, Dewberry, Rosas,
Vice Chairperson Padia and Chairperson Cole were present.
Commissioners Faris and Soper were absent.
Erik Strunk, Community Services Department Director, and Tim
Barnard, Assistant Community Services Director, and Michael Beck,
Chief Librarian, were present from the City of Glendale. Michael
Schmitt, Principal Architect, with DFDG was also present.
III. Presentation on Western Area Branch Library — Chairperson
Wilson called for this item. Staff presented updated conceptual
designs on the Western Area Branch library Heroes Park and Media
Center concepts. Staff also presented the cumulative public outreach
survey results to the Board and Commission.
Chairperson Wilson called for a motion from the Library Advisory
Board.
Board member Shelly made a motion to recommend Heroes
Park for the location of the new Western Area Branch Library.
Board member Collett seconded the motion, which passed with
a vote of 5 to 0.
Chairperson Cole called for a motion from the Parks and Recreation
Advisory Commission.

Commissioner Dewberry made a motion to recommend Heroes
Park for the location of the new Western Area Branch Library.
Commissioner Padia seconded the motion, which passed with a
vote of 5 to 0.
IV. Board/Commission Comments & Suggestions — Chairperson
Wilson called for any comments from the Board and Commissioners.
Vice Chairperson Sommer said she was proud of the process and glad
to be a part of the decision making.
Board member Koory thanked Councilmembers Tolmachoff and Turner,
staff and DFDG for their hard work on this very important item.
Vice Chairperson Padia suggested the Western Area Branch Library
include a Makerspace. The main library has a Makerspace area which
is greatly used. He also suggested the possibility of a "buy a brick
program" where interested parties purchase a brick paver which would
be installed in the area surrounding the new library. He said the
collected funds could be used to help purchase needed library items.
V. Adjournment — With no further business, Chairperson Wilson
adjourned the meeting at 11:04am.

written.)
