MINUTES
I. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Dave Coble called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Also in attendance:Gail Hildebrant,James Grose,John Horvath,and City Staff—Andrew Lynes and Purab
Adabala
Members absent:Erik Flodin,Mike Wood,and Scott Donald
Guests:None
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes from the April 7,2014 meetings were unanimously(4-0)approved.
III. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Nancy Sandberg from the public was present at the meeting. Ms.Sandberg did not make any comments at
the meeting.
IV. INTRODUCTIONS
All members and guests introduced themselves.
Andrew Lynes mentioned that he would attend Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee(CBAC)meetings on
behalf of Glendale Police Department. Officer Lynes said that he worked for Glendale Police Department
for approximately 20 years including three years on a Bike Squad. Officer Lynes stated that he works in
the Community Action Team of the Police Department.
Purab Adabala mentioned that he would staff the CBAC with the retirement of Steven Hancock.
V. CONTINUANCE OR WITHDRAWAL OF AGENDA ITEMS
No agenda items required continuance or withdrawal.
VI. REPORTS FROM OTHER COMMITTEES AND ORGANIZATIONS
James Grose reported that the last Citizen Transportation Oversight Commission(CTOC)meeting had a
presentation on the new flashing left turn arrows in Glendale and the system of intersections operation with
the new devises.
Purab Adabala reminded that Jon Froke,Planning Director was informed of lack of bicycle racks at the
Starbucks located at the Arrowhead Legends shopping center at the February 3,2014 CBAC meeting. Mr.

Adabala said that an email from Mr.Froke is informing that a new bike rack is installed at the Arrowhead
Legends shopping center Starbucks location,which is a popular stop for avid bicyclists to take a break.
VII. MESSAGE FORM THE GLENDALE GOVERNMENT SERVICES COMMITTEE
Letters from the Glendale Government Services Committee(GCS)were distributed to CBAC members.
Members were informed by the GCS in the letter that meetings and member attendance were important to
keep the posted meetings on schedule. The GCS letter reminded members that cancelling posted meetings
due to a lack of attendance is an inconvenience to residents and attending members. In the letter,the GCS
requested members to inform the staff liaison in advance of planned absence.
VIII. 2014 GLENDALE FAMILY BIKE RIDE
Purab Adabala thanked CBAC members for volunteering at the 2014 Glendale Family Bike Ride(GFBR)
event. Mr.Adabala presented an information summary of the 2014 GFBR event. Mr.Adabala asked for
member input on any issues or recommendations for improvements at future GFBR events.
Dave Coble,Chair of CBAC identified a few improvements that could be made,they are:
• Address loose gravel at the connection between Skunk Creek trail and 64th Drive at the Sunset
Vista Park.
• Lack of bike racks at the Sunset Vista Park,where the GFBR has a rest stop.
• More salty peanut snack bars at the above rest stop,where Mr.Coble volunteered.
• Few copies of the GFBR maps for use at each of the rest stops.
Purab Adabala mentioned that there was a federal project that addressed among other locations the
connection between Skunk Creek trail and 64th Drive at the Sunset Vista Park. Mr.Adabala added that this
project would also include installation of bike racks at the above mentioned location. Mr.Adabala said
that maps and additional snack bars can be provided at future GFBR events.
John Horvath suggested that a Portable Document Format(PDF)of the flyer could be posted on the city
website.
Gail Hildebrant recommended that thank you letters be sent to all volunteers including the following:
• Ron Harkins for providing Disc Jockey services at the event
• Sharon NewmanMatt for helping with helmet fitting area of the event
IX. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
• Bicycle Friendly Community checklist for future certification application.
• Bike Lane vs Bike Route
• Bike lanes at intersections
X. OTHER BUSINESS
No other business was conducted.
XI. NEXT MEETING
Dave Coble said the next regular meeting of the Glendale Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee would be
held on Monday,June 2,2014,6:30 p.m.,at a location to be decided.
XII. ADJOURNMENT
Dave Coble adjourned the meeting at 8:00 pm.
