ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
GLENDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY
LARGE MEETING ROOM—FIRST FLOOR
5959 WEST BROWN STREET
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2015
6:00PM
The meeting was called to order at approximately 6:01pm by Chairperson Carrie Richards,
Commissioners Nadine Yuhasz, Joan Graham, Thomas Cole, Bernadette Bolognini(arrived at
6:15pm) and Eva Ndavu were in attendance. Representing city staff was Mojgan Vahabzadeh,
Public Arts Coordinator, Michael Beck, Chief Librarian(arrived at 6:08pm) and Jana Weldon,
Part-time Associate (arrived at 6:16pm). Vice Chair Ann Owens was absent and excused.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES—September 24,2015
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Graham to APPROVE the Arts Commission
meeting minutes from the September24,2015 meeting, as written. Commissioner Yuhasz
SECONDED the MOTION,which carried unanimously.
BUSINESS FROM THE FLOOR
There were no comments from the floor.
IN FLUX CYCLE 6 PROJECT OVERVIEW
Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Public Arts Coordinator asked the Arts Commission Chair, Carrie
Richards,to update the Commission on the artist selection process for an IN FLUX art
installation to be created for the windows at Gallery Glendale at Westgate, which took place at
Tempe Public Library on October 5, 2015. Chairperson Richards was on the selection panel.
Chairperson Richards stated that the selection panelists had the opportunity to review applicant
artists' qualifications prior to the meeting on October 5, which made the process go easier since
there were about 65 applicants. She explained the process of viewing the past works of the
applicant artists on a big screen and then going through a voting process whereby all partnering
organizations selected the artist(s) for their project location(s). She noted that in the end, artist
Troy Moody was selected to create the IN FLUX art installation for Glendale.
AN UPDATE ON THE FY 2015-16 PERFORMING ARTS PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM
PROJECT
Staff provided an update on the 2015-16 performing arts partnership program projects. Mojgan
Vahabzadeh, Public Arts Coordinator stated the Glendale City Council had approved nine
performing arts groups to receive funding from the city's annual Performing Arts Partnership
Program. She passed out a list of the projects. She explained that the application process will
begin again in February of 2016. She stated that expenditures from the municipal art fund for the
annual Performing Arts Partnership Program are recommended by the Glendale Arts
Commission through its annual arts projects plan and are subject to approval by Council.

Ms. Vahabzadeh invited the Commission to attend a performance of the"Live at the Library"
series, a grant-funded public performance at 6:30 p.m. in the Library Auditorium, immediately
following the regular meeting.
STAFF UPDATES
Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Public Arts Coordinator provided staff updates.
Gallery Glendale
The Silkscreen Six: A Mono Silk Screen Print Exhibition- Oct. 2 to Oct. 31, 2015 has come to a
close. This event was very well received.
November and December Exhibit: The Phoenix Artists Guild Fine Art Exhibition opens on Nov.
4 to Dec. 27. In November,the opening night reception is on Friday,Nov. 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.
In December, opening night reception is on Friday, Dec. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. She encouraged the
Commissioners to attend.
VOTE TO CHANGE THE DATE OF THE NOVEMBER MEETING
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, staff asked the Commission to move the November meeting to
a new date.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Yuhasz to MOVE the November Arts
Commission meeting to November 19,2015. Commissioner Cole SECONDED the
MOTION,which carried unanimously.

ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Richards asked for a motion to adjourn.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Bolognini to ADJOURN the meeting.
Commissioner Cole SECONDED the MOTION,which carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 6:20 pm
The next meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on Thursday,November 19,
2015, 6:00 p.m., at the Large Meeting Room, first floor, Glendale Public Library, 5959 West
Brown Street, Glendale, Arizona.
