POTENTIAL GALLERY GLENDALE RELOCATION SPACE
Mojgan Vahabzadeh,Public Arts Coordinator, stated that as outlined in the Temporary License
Agreement between the City and The New Westgate, LLC for the use of Suite D-109 as Gallery
Glendale at Westgate, the Licensor has the right, upon providing not less than fifteen days prior
notice to Licensee,to relocate the Gallery License Area to another space in the Center. The Arts
Commission conducted a tour of a potential future gallery relocation space within Westgate
Entertainment District.
Ms. Vahabzadeh explained that the site proposed was located behind the current gallery location
and was smaller in size, however, had a lot of potential. After the tour, the Arts Commission
concluded that the proposed site would work well as the new home of Gallery Glendale. The
consensus was also that this location provided for more foot traffic and was in close proximity to
two busy restaurants. Ms.Vahabzadeh discussed the tenant improvement costs associated with
relocating. Additionally, the target date for an art exhibit would be no later than September. The
commission agreed to move forward with this initiative.

the artist,Kristine Kollasch at Elsie McCarthy Sensory Garden and noted that preparations for
the permanent artwork installation had already started. She reported that Ms. Kollasch had
started her workshops for teens at the specified group homes, and that the teens were working
with the artist to create all the mosaic tiles that would be used in the project. She added that they
will also be creating a mural around the area.
Ms. Vahabzadeh provided information about the routine maintenance and repairs of the city's
public art collection.
COMMISSION COMMENTS
Commissioner Cole stated that he would like to comment on something that happened many
years back at the Foothills Public Safety Complex on Union Hills and 62nd Avenue. He said
there had been a public artwork sculpture called"Whirlwind" at that location. He noted that
some years ago,the decision was made to remove and relocate it to the Main Library and as a
result, they do not have any public artwork at the facility. Therefore,he would like to start a
conversation on how to get public artwork to facilities that would want to have art at their
location. The Arts Commission agreed to look into this item.
