ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
GLENDALE PUBLIC LIBRARY

The meeting was called to order at approximately 4:07 pm by Chairperson Carol Ladd.
Commissioners, Jessica Koory,Joan Graham,Anne Owens,and Nadine Yuhasz were in
attendance. Representing city staff was Mojgan Vahabzadeh,Public Arts Coordinator.
Commissioner Carrie Richards was absent and excused. Special Guest in attendance was Mike
Beck, Chief Librarian.
BUSINESS FROM THE FLOOR
At this time the Commission will hear comments from the public. The Commission,however,
may not discuss or consider items not appearing on the agenda unless an actual emergency
exists. There were no public comments.
APPROVAL OF THE MEETING MINUTES
There were no minutes to approve.
COMMISSION ITEM OF INTEREST: FY 2014-15 SUMMER ART CAMPS
Mojgan Vahabzadeh, Public Arts Coordinator stated that per the FY 2014-15 Arts Plan, $10,000
had been approved for conducting summer art camp workshops for youth in Glendale. She
explained that at the December 18, 2014 meeting of the Arts Commission,Commissioners
expressed an interest in creating a grant opportunity through a competitive application process
for artists to propose youth and teen community-based summer art programs. The.Commission
facilitated a discussion regarding this item, and provided direction for planning of the 2015
Summer Art Camps.
Ms. Vahabzadeh noted that at the previous Commission meeting,Commissioner Koory had
suggested possibly starting the Youth& Teen Summer Education Program this year as an
alternative for the Summer Arts Camp. She noted that should the Commission agree to begin
this year,they could start with one or two projects this summer.
Commissioner Koory suggested they start with one project in summer 2015. Commissioner
Graham stated this was a good idea,however, she would like this opportunity to be specifically
geared for teens. Everyone agreed.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Graham to APPROVE the FY 2014-15 Teen
Summer Arts Education Project in the amount of$10,000. Commissioner Yuhasz
SECONDED the MOTION,which carried unanimously.

GLENDALE ART COUNCIL JURIED FINE ARTS EXHIBIT
Mojgan Vahabzadeh,Public Arts Coordinator stated that the Arts Commission shall review the
Glendale Arts Council Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibit and select the purchase awards for the
Municipal Art Collection. She noted that selected artworks will be installed in a city buildings,
and per the adopted FY 2014-15 Arts Plan,the total purchase not to exceed$2,000.
After much discussion and review,the Arts Commission selected "Standing In Aspens"by
Bruce R. Stam in the amount of$2000.00.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Yuhasz to APPROVE the selection of the
Glendale Arts Council Annual Juried Fine Arts purchase award for the Municipal Art
Collection to not exceed$2,000. Commissioner Owens SECONDED the MOTION,which
carried unanimously.

COMMISSION COMMENTS
Mike Beck,Chief Librarian stated he was happy to be working for the City of Glendale and
provided some background information on his years experience, as well as his move from North
Carolina.
Chairperson Ladd asked for a motion to adjourn.
A MOTION was MADE by Commissioner Yuhasz to ADJOURN the meeting.
Commissioner Koory SECONDED the MOTION,which carried unanimously.
The meeting adjourned at 5:41pm.
Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Glendale Arts Commission will be held on Thursday,
February 26,2015, 6 p.m., in the Large Meeting Room, first floor, Glendale Public Library,
