BUSINESS PLAN ADJUSTMENTS

costs of service reductions: (1)janitorial service will be provided by the Field Operations
Department; (2) eliminate community activities budget; (3) publicity and promotion
budget will be reduced by $2,000; (4) eliminate "Horizon" maintenance contract; (5)
eliminate Security Guards; and (6) eliminate 6 vacant positions. The libraries will also
participate in Maricopa County Library District's reciprocal borrowing program that will
provide any non-resident with a free library card. For each of these new card holders,
the library will receive $25 from Maricopa County Library District. As a result of
participating in the reciprocal borrowing program, Maricopa County Library District will
also purchase Polaris ILS and pay the maintenance contract for Polaris. In preparation
for dealing with security issues, Ms. Kennedy verified that library stations do currently
have a panic button. Staff training is currently underway and Ms. Kennedy is working
with Glendale PD to get police volunteers for the libraries. Regarding revenue
generators, the library system will be participating in reciprocal borrowing, begin
charging for meeting rooms, and increasing fees for overdue library materials. Ms.

LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS:
• Ms. Aborne would like to have more citizens attend Library Advisory Board
Meeting by making people more aware of how often and where the board meets.
Ms. Aborne mentioned that council members send out an Around Town Notice
every Friday. She wondered ifthe library would be able to include some
information or facts about our libraries that could be included with their
newsletters.
• Ms. Aborne also commented that the wonderful presentations that we have by
staff deserve to be shared by more people. They're comparable to presentations
she's seen at National Conferences.
• Ms. Drake commented 'that more people need to get involved and build
knowledge about their community.
• Ms. Bolognini thought we should try to get new users like businesses do. Ms.
Kennedy said that the library does use FourSquare to market to new users by
enticing them to check-in at the libraries in order to receive a prize.
• A general comment made was that volunteers are a huge help to all of our
libraries. Ms. Kennedy said we always want more volunteers.
• Ms. Drake suggested that we could charge for booths at the Downtown Farmer's
Market and Green Day Event. This money could be part of our fundraiser
initiative.
