FUNDING REQUEST IN SUPPORT OF THE ANNUAL GLENDALE ART COUNCIL
CHILDREN'S ART SHOW
Mojgan Vahabzadeh,Public Arts Coordinator provided information on this item. She explained
the Glendale Arts Council holds a juried children's art contest open to Elementary School
students. The exhibit took place at the Fruit Packing Shed at Sahuaro Ranch Park from February

$1,000. The Glendale Arts Council is requesting support for this contest from the Arts
Commission in the amount of$1,000. Ms. Vahabzadeh explained that because of scheduling
conflicts through no fault of the Arts Council, this request came in late to the Commission to be
considered in an open meeting. She stated the Arts Commission has for the past two to three
years offered support for this event. Since the request had come in late, she is asking the
Commission's consideration on this matter.
Chairperson Lesser noted the timing of the request was inconvenient since the event had already
taken place. However, understands the mistake that happened with the dates being changed.
Commissioner Koory explained the mix-up with the scheduled dates for this event. She stated
most of the money provided will be going for art supplies for the kids.
Ms. Vahabzadeh stated that as part of the 2011/2012 Annual Art Projects Plan, there was to be
more community involvement as recommended by City Council. Commissioner Koory agreed
and added the Arts Commission was investing in the community by participating where needed.
Commissioner Medina agreed that there had to be community involvement as well as a city
presence for public perception.
A MOTION was MADE by Commission member Barbour to APPROVE funding in the
