THE GLENDALE FAMILY BIKE RIDE Steve Hancock presented information on some major changes in the ride for 2011,illustrated by PowerPoint graphics. First he noted the date of the ride will be Sunday,April 10,2011 at Sahauro Ranch Park. He said one big change will be in the ride routes with the long route connecting to the Skunk Creek pathway at 73rd Avenue and then returning to the Thunderbird Paseo via 63rd Avenue and the short route for the first time using the Thunderbird Paseo pathway from Marshall Ranch Elementary School to 47th Avenue. Steve illustrated the route changes on a PowerPoint slide. Steve then displayed an aerial photo of the Sahauro Ranch Park soccer field where the ride begins and ends and showed other photos illustrating the addition of a chain link fence that has been erected round the soccer field since last year's ride. Steve said the addition of the fence will present some challenges for the circulation of riders but that having a grassy surface for riders to enjoy outweighed moving the start/finish to nearby parking lots. Steve then turned to sandy Adams to provide information on the initial planning for the ride. Sandy began by saying the ride was moved back to Sunday after last year's ride being on a Saturday to join forces with Green Festival. She said a number of riders said they preferred Sundays including some members of the CBAC. She also noted that the earlier ride date Citizen Bicycle Advisory Committee Minutes December 6,2010 Page 2- in late March—required by the Green Festival-means colder temperatures and possible windy conditions as was the case last year. Sandy said the 2011 ride will join forces with community health providers in a theme of combating childhood obesity. By doing so she said,we can provide information on various health screenings for children that are readily available to the community but may not be widely known. She said that Dolores Ceballos at the Maricopa County Health Department will be helping to organize vendors for a health fair to be held in conjunction with the bike ride. Sandy said Dolores Ceballos could provide as many as 40 health vendors which would probably mean placing some in the parking lot adjacent to the soccer field. Steve Hancock said that would be good since it would encourage more circulation in and out of the fenced field. VIII. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS No future agenda items were suggested. IX. OTHER BUSINESS No other business was raised. X.
