inform people about the wide range of bicycle facilities in the Phoenix metropolitan region and to highlight the types
of people who ride bikes on a regular basis for commuting to work, for short, local trips to conduct daily business, and
for recreation. The video ran for about 30 minutes. At the conclusion of the video Brad Meek commented that it was
very well done. Other members agreed.
VIII. GLENDALE REGIONAL BICYCLE CONNECTIONS
Steve Hancock, referring to the video just shown, said that Glendale is doing its part in making regional connections,
especially in regard to the system of pathways along New River. Steve displayed the MAG regional bike map in an
enlarged, projected view on the conference room screen. He zoomed in to show north Glendale and the location of
New River near 75th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road. Steve said that the system of multi-use paths along New River
in Glendale and Peoria completes a substantial portion of the Central Reach of the regional West Valley Rivers Master
Plan. Steve pointed out that the combined system of pathways in Glendale and Peoria along New River—all to be
completed in 2014—will be almost 14 miles in total length and connected to the Thunderbird Paseo and Skunk Creeks
paths as well as the AC/DC in central Glendale and the Grand Canal path in south Glendale(in 2012). Steve sketched

out a possible loop based on Phoenix completing segments of their Grand Canal pathways that would be over 47 miles
in total length, looping through Glendale,Phoenix, and Peoria. Steve handed out copies of a map from the City of
Peoria that shows their New River pathways—both existing and planned. He said that Glendale will complete a
connecting pathway on new River from Northern Avenue to the future Grand Canal segment at Bethany Home Road.
He also said Glendale was seeking design assistance funding to design a short segment of pathway on New River that
would connect Peoria's pathway near Hillcrest Boulevard to an existing Glendale segment that would connect to a
future Peoria path at Pinnacle Peak Road. Steve said once the planned New River pathway segments were all
completed by both Glendale and Peoria the West valley would have one of the most extensive off-street pathway
